
Sanrio is launching its first video game, featuring beloved characters, on the Nintendo Switch.
Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty and other popular characters, has launched its own video game studio called Sanrio Games. According to Oricon, this new studio will create and publish a variety of games, starting with Sanrio Party Land. Sanrio Games plans to release at least 10 games in the next three years, expanding Sanrio’s reach in the gaming world beyond just licensing its characters to other developers.
Sanrio Party Land is a cheerful and vibrant town filled with beloved Sanrio characters. Players can customize the town, explore everything it has to offer, and play fun board and party games with other players online.
The new Sanrio Party Land game, featuring popular characters like Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll, will launch this fall on both Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2. Tomokuni Tsuji, CEO of Sanrio, discussed the growth of Sanrio Games, explaining that the company’s goal, based on its philosophy of ‘Minna Nakayoku’ – meaning ‘everyone getting along’ – has always been to bring joy to people worldwide through its characters. Sanrio has traditionally shared its more than 450 original characters through products, licensing deals, and theme parks, and is now expanding into games.
We’re excited to announce the launch of ‘Sanrio Games,’ our own game brand, which represents a new direction for the company. This will give fans and partners around the world a fun new way to experience the Sanrio universe, and ultimately help us grow as a leading global IP company while spreading joy to more people, as Tsuji explained.
Following our initial investment in the gaming industry in May 2024, we’ve been building our team, forging partnerships, and refining our investment strategy. Today, Sanrio Senior Executive Officer Kosuke Hamasaki is excited to announce the launch of our new gaming brand and its first game.
Hamasaki stated that by consistently releasing games of different types and connecting them to other popular Sanrio characters, they aim to grow the Sanrio brand and create a reliable income stream for their games over the next several years. They plan to offer unique Sanrio entertainment globally, both by developing games themselves and through partnerships with other developers.
Hello Kitty Fans Have Plenty of Games to Hold Them Over Until Sanrio Pary Land Arrives
Although more information about Sanrio Party Land is still forthcoming, fans can enjoy other Sanrio video games currently available, with even more on the way before Sanrio Games releases its first title in North America. This initial release will offer a surprising and family-friendly introduction to the hero shooter genre.
Sanrio Characters Jump Festa is a new, fast-paced action-sports game with over 50 levels, each filled with unique challenges and obstacles. The game’s tagline is: “Let’s all have fun playing crazy sports together!” It’s designed to be easy to pick up and play, with simple rules that let anyone quickly join the fun and compete with friends by scoring goals.
On April 16th, Hello Kitty Island Adventure received its largest update to date: City Town. This update not only expanded the game, but also introduced USAHA*NA, a well-loved but often overlooked Sanrio character.
