Khloe Kardashian says mom Kris Jenner ‘conned’ her and sister Kourtney into doing reality TV

You won’t believe this, but I recently found out that Kourtney and I weren’t exactly jumping for joy at the idea of doing reality TV! Apparently, our mom, Kris, really had to convince us to give it a shot. I always knew she was a master negotiator, but this takes the cake!

I was chatting with Morgan Stewart recently, and we were reminiscing about how my family first landed on TV almost 20 years ago. It’s amazing to think back on those early days and how everything unfolded!

I remember when the Kardashians first got the chance to be on ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’! Apparently, when they were first approached about it, my favorites, Kim and Kourtney, weren’t immediately excited about the idea. They weren’t sure it was for them at first, which is so surprising looking back now!

This happened shortly after Khloe, Kourtney, and Kim Kardashian, now 45, launched their clothing store, Dash, which has since closed.

Khloe remembered initially being against the idea, but their mom convinced them to go along with it by framing it as an advertisement for the family business.

She recalled how thrilled her mother was at the idea of appearing on television. Her mother and Kim were both incredibly excited.

The show went on to become a cultural phenomenon, airing for 14 seasons between 2007 and 2020.

Once it ended, the family began filming a docuseries titled The Kardashians for Hulu.

The show launched the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, along with their brother Rob and younger sisters Kendall and Kylie, to fame.

Honestly, it wasn’t just a business – it was everything. It’s where it all began for my favorite family, the foundation they built their entire empire on. Everything they’ve done, every amazing venture, it all stems from this one incredible place. It’s like the roots of a tree, holding everything up – their whole dynasty, really! I’m obsessed, can you tell?

During a 46-minute interview, Khloe admitted that she and her sisters were completely unprepared when they initially launched their store, Dash.

Oh my god, listening to her talk about the early days of Poosh… it was just her and Kourtney! Can you believe it? They literally did everything themselves. Like, scrubbing the floors, handling all the boring tax stuff, even steaming all the clothes for photoshoots! No assistants, no team, nothing. She kept saying they had absolutely zero employees, and honestly? They were totally winging it! They had no idea what they were doing, and it’s just… so inspiring to me!

The family funded their main business location in Calabasas with a $50,000 credit card belonging to Kourtney, which had been issued by her father, Robert Kardashian, before he passed away from cancer in 2003.

In last year’s MasterClass, Kim discussed the challenges she and her sisters faced when they first launched Dash in 2006 and worked to make the business successful.

Did Kris Jenner’s push for fame help or hurt her daughters in the long run?

What’s your view?

Kim acknowledged that she and her sisters often struggled with late payments to their suppliers, which meant they always had to pay everything in advance.

Their father left them a small amount of money, which they used to rent the store. They then used Kourtney’s credit card to purchase all the merchandise.

She admitted they used to only pay the minimum amount on their credit card each month. She now realizes this wasn’t a good idea – ideally, you should pay off the full balance – but at the time, they simply couldn’t afford to do so.

She’s a successful entrepreneur who created SKIMS, a billion-dollar underwear company, and has also started her own beauty lines.

Khloe founded Good American, a company that started with jeans. More recently, she also introduced Khloud, a brand of protein snacks.

Kourtney runs the lifestyle brand Poosh and also launched a line of gummy vitamins and supplements called Lemme.
