The re-release of Avengers: Endgame in cinemas won’t just be a trip down memory lane. Director Joe Russo has revealed that it will include brand-new scenes that tie directly into the events of Avengers: Doomsday.
Joe Russo says Avengers: Endgame rerelease will include footage to setup Doomsday
Disney first announced at CinemaCon that Avengers: Endgame would return to theaters with new footage, but didn’t share any details. However, director Joe Russo recently clarified what fans can expect at the Sands Film Festival. He explained, speaking remotely, that the new footage isn’t just a simple deleted scene – it’s a key addition that connects to the story.
The Russo brothers announced they’re re-releasing the movie with extra footage related to the ‘Doomsday’ storyline, which was also added to ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ They explained this addition is important because it provides essential context and sets up the events of the upcoming ‘Avengers Doomsday’ film coming in December.
This is the first time a movie rerelease has been used to continue a story, rather than just celebrate a past success. Since Avengers: Endgame earned over $2.799 billion worldwide and provided a definitive conclusion to a major story arc, this new footage is a special chance to connect that story to what comes next. As director Joe Russo explained, it’s a way to smoothly transition from the events of Endgame to the upcoming storyline (according to Deadline).
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m completely blown away by the potential connection to Avengers: Doomsday! The casting news is already a shocker – Robert Downey Jr. is coming back, which is amazing, but not as Iron Man. Apparently, he’s going to play Doctor Doom! It’s wild to think about him switching from hero to one of the most famous villains ever. It’s a huge change, and I can’t wait to see what he does with the role.
The re-release of Avengers: Endgame guarantees that the story, from the moment of the Blip to the final battle, will be seen the way it was meant to be – on the big screen, with fellow fans.
