A beauty queen from Brazil was arrested on suspicion of using money from drug trafficking to fund her expensive lifestyle.
São Paulo police arrested 36-year-old Sara Monteiro on Wednesday as part of ‘Operation Luxury,’ a large-scale effort targeting drug crimes, according to G1 Globo.
The investigation is looking into a drug and money laundering network that operates across the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul.
Monteiro, who won the Miss Universe Uberlândia 2025 title and has a large following on Instagram with 108,000 followers, was arrested following searches of her apartment by authorities.
Investigators suspect she made substantial profits from trafficking marijuana across Brazil.
According to G1 Globo, Rafael Herrera of the FICCO stated that Monteiro first caught the attention of authorities due to her extravagant social media posts. Pictures of luxury cars, yachts, and lavish vacations raised red flags and prompted an investigation into her potential involvement in illegal activities.
During the investigation, we noticed some members were living lavish lifestyles that didn’t match their known income – they had expensive cars, took frequent trips, and one member was connected to a beauty queen, who was either his wife or girlfriend, according to reports.
Monteiro used to own a women’s clothing store, and that’s thought to be the reason behind the code name for this operation.
Police became more suspicious when she was spotted walking her dog close to a remote property known for drug activity.
I can’t believe it… she’s being accused of everything! Like, seriously heavy stuff – money laundering, drug trafficking, and they’re saying she’s involved with a whole criminal organization! It’s just… shocking. I always knew she was a little mysterious, but this is beyond anything I could have imagined. I’m still hoping it’s all a huge misunderstanding, but the charges… they’re terrifying. I just want to understand what’s happening to her.
As part of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement has already seized 5.9 tons of marijuana.
Meanwhile, efforts to locate Monteiro’s husband are actively underway.
He’s facing accusations of moving more than $2.1 million in questionable transactions while living a lavish life.
To date, 24 people have been arrested as part of the operation.
As part of the ongoing Operation Luxury investigation, police have confiscated 20 expensive cars.
