Christopher Meloni reacts to ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ cancellation: ‘It was a great ride’

Christopher Meloni wants to thank fans of Elliot Stabler for their continued support and for being so welcoming when the character returned.

Christopher Meloni, known for his role on “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” shared his gratitude on Instagram Thursday after news broke that the NBC series would end after five seasons.

In a recent video, Meloni shared his reaction to the cancellation of ‘Organized Crime.’ He expressed gratitude to the show’s fans, thanking them for supporting his character, Elliot Stabler, and for enthusiastically welcoming the show’s return.

Television

This popular series is the most successful part of producer Dick Wolf’s television lineup, and a new season begins Thursday on NBC.

Christopher Meloni first became known for his role as Detective Elliot Stabler on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” which premiered in 1999. For the first twelve seasons, Stabler and his partner Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), along with other detectives, investigated the most serious sex crimes in New York City. Meloni left the show before season thirteen because he and NBC couldn’t reach an agreement on a new contract.

Elliot Stabler came back to “SVU” in 2021 as part of a special episode that introduced “Organized Crime,” a new “Law & Order” series following NYPD detectives who pursue dangerous criminals. Although Stabler has made a few guest appearances on “SVU” since then, the cancellation of “Organized Crime” probably means Christopher Meloni won’t be playing Stabler as a regular character anymore, at least for the time being. “Law & Order: SVU” will continue, having been renewed for a 28th season.

In an Instagram post, Meloni shared how much he enjoyed playing alongside his teammate. He called it a fantastic experience and expressed gratitude for the support that helped build his nearly 17-year career, something he never expected.
