The son of a famous actor—recently nominated for an Oscar—and a celebrated rock musician mostly stays out of the public eye.

The 14-year-old joined his well-known mother at a glamorous event in Los Angeles this week, offering his support.

Born in California, he’s made his parents proud with his musical talent on the drums.

He’s a surprisingly savvy businessman, and his mom says he became fascinated with the stock market when he was around 11 or 12 years old. She even jokes that he could have managed her investments by the time he was twelve!

The actress from Almost Famous, recently nominated for her second Oscar for her performance in Song Sung Blue, brought her oldest son, Ryder, as her date to the 2026 Vanity Fair Oscars party.

Ryder told Entertainment Tonight that he couldn’t be prouder of his mother. He explained that he’s witnessed her incredible work ethic and dedication firsthand, saying she’s put in more effort than anyone he knows, and it’s truly inspiring.

Hudson, meanwhile, is exceedingly proud of her ‘patchwork family.’

Although our family doesn’t fit the traditional mold, I feel incredibly successful as a parent. I’ve built a really strong and loving family with my three children, even though they have different fathers, and that’s what matters to me,” she shared with The Sunday Times in 2022.

Kate Hudson told E! News that she encourages her kids to embrace mistakes, have fun, and be themselves – even if that means being rebellious. Her main advice is to follow their own path and, above all, be good people. She wants them to find genuine happiness and live fulfilling, content lives.

Kate Hudson grew up in a blended family. Her mother is actress Goldie Hawn, and Kurt Russell, whom she considers a father figure, has been a significant part of her life. Bill Hudson is her biological father.
