Universal TV studio chief Pearlena Igbokwe to oversee NBC Entertainment
As a film critic, I find myself expanding my critical territory within NBCUniversal’s recent organizational shake-up, with the esteemed Pearlena Igbokwe now at the helm of even broader creative realms.
On Thursday, Donna Langley, Chairman of NBCUniversal Studios and Entertainment, presented a simplified management structure that promotes Igbokwe to the position of NBC Entertainment Chairman – a role traditionally sought after in television. In his new role, Igbokwe will oversee NBC’s programming which encompasses late-night shows, live events, and special productions.
She’ll oversee the corporation’s TV production facilities, which include Universal Television, famous for producing “Law & Order: SVU” on NBC, “Hacks” for HBO, and “The Day of the Jackal” for Peacock.
Since 2016, Igbokwe has overseen operations at Universal Television. Furthermore, she will be accountable for creating original scripts for the emerging streaming platform, Peacock.
As part of the move, programming executive Frances Berwick was handed a smaller portfolio.

The leading figures at NBCUniversal, namely Mark Lazarus, Cesar Conde, and Mark Woodbury, have expanded their roles within the company. Meanwhile, Susan Rovner, responsible for television programming, has chosen to depart from the company.
In New York, Berwick had managed NBC’s original content, program strategy, and operations for six cable entertainment networks. However, her position has been undergoing changes since Langley took steps to centralize control over the past year, and following Comcast’s announcement that they will separate most of their cable TV channels into a new publicly traded company later in 2021.
Over the course of more than 25 years, Berwick developed Bravo into a highly successful producer of popular reality television series, including “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” “The Real Housewives” franchise, and “Love Island.
She is once again taking up the position of head at Bravo, while simultaneously overseeing the unscripted television department at Peacock.
Langley stated that the formation of this fresh entity will unify our Television Production, NBC Entertainment, Bravo, and Peacock content under one harmonious umbrella,” (in simpler terms) “Langley announced that we are merging our TV studios, NBC Entertainment, Bravo, and Peacock programming into a single, cohesive group.
Additionally, Langley brought on board Liz Jenkins, the head of business affairs, to reinforce our content strategy, TV programming purchases, and overall business management.
