Tori Spelling Reveals What She Grabbed During 30-Minute Evacuation From Wildfire
In simpler terms, during the chaotic escape from their home due to the dangerous Los Angeles wildfires, Tori Spelling disclosed that she had grabbed certain items along with her frightened five kids and cherished pets.
On a recent episode of her MisSpelling podcast (released on Friday), the television host, aged 51, delved deeper into her experiences from last week’s Kenneth Fire, sharing more reflections on the event.
Last Tuesday marked the start of devastating wildfires in Pacific Palisades, which have since razed more than 12,000 buildings. The latest count from CBS News reports a total of 27 fatalities.
In a rush, the star shared with her audience that when they had to evacuate, they did their absolute best within half an hour or so.
In about half an hour, we managed to gather our belongings for six people and three pets… frankly, I’m still amazed at how we pulled it off.
In this scenario, Tori’s 16-year-old daughter Stella, whom she refers to as her ‘co-parent’, helped Tori’s children – Liam (17), Hattie (13), Finn (12), and Beau (7) – hastily gather their belongings. It is important to note that these kids are also shared with Tori’s ex, Dean McDermott.
Admittedly, Spelling froze in her closet when she found herself uttering, “Here I am, a lifelong self-proclaimed hoarder, and it could all vanish. In that instant, I was at a loss as to what to keep.
Tori mentioned that she used a homemade LA shirt she was already wearing, along with a jacket from her old elementary school in 1985.
I hastily grabbed a seashell given by my cherished uncle, along with some crystals for positive vibes, and my precious contacts, all essential items for my fervent collection.
She expressed a preference for her children reaching for what they need instead of herself. Moreover, she mentioned that there wasn’t enough room in the car to store any luggage.
In a less dramatic manner, the sentence could be rephrased as: ‘Does anyone care about me? … I glanced at my Louboutin and Balenciaga shoes, and thought to myself, “So what if nobody cares?”‘
Before making a move towards the car, she collected spelling (meaning items like) pet food, water, and family photos. The vehicle, already overflowing, caused minor disagreements to flare up among them.
She explained, “Everyone approaches situations differently and values things uniquely. If something is transportable, let’s put it in the car.
Overflowing with excitement, I crammed every single person inside. The crowd groaned, “I can’t shift! I can’t breathe!” But my heart swelled with pride as my daughter cautioned me, “Mom, you won’t be able to see anything from the back.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress reminisced, saying, “I can’t believe we managed to fit ourselves into that car. It felt like playing an advanced version of Tetris, but not in a fun way. We were crammed in tightly.
As Tori and her family departed from their house, she recalled feeling like they were driving straight towards a blaze as they made their way to an Airbnb.
Upon glancing around, it became clear that there was a fire. Suddenly, smoke started billowing out from the vents, so I quickly told the children, “Quickly, grab a t-shirt each.
Tori explained that she had said, “Cover your mouth, hold your breath, and let’s drive straight through,” which caused them to feel terrified.
While driving on the freeway, my children had their shirts over their faces and were holding their breaths, reminding me of a familiar scene from a movie, leaving me to remark internally, “Oh dear, I’ve certainly watched this play out before.
The actress went on to say, ‘However, we went by. We went beyond it. The children could take a breath once more.’
Although the star’s residence managed to withstand the flames, regrettably, Candice Spelling’s 23-million-dollar Malibu oceanfront abode was leveled by the fire.
She informed TMZ that she is stunned and currently coping with this significant bereavement for our family. I am immensely thankful for the treasured memories we created. It was an extraordinary blessing to experience them.
Many locals and famous figures suffered the loss of their homes during the fires. Among them were Miles Teller, Billy Crystal, Jeff Bridges, Paris Hilton, Tina Knowles, Joshua Jackson, and Anthony Hopkins.
Just last week, Tori likewise posted a heart-wrenching and intense narrative about the evacuation of her family’s home on Instagram.
In her poignant message, Tori confessed that she had hesitated to discuss the recent fires on social media, as she found it overflowing with heartfelt compassion, mournful grief, useful resources, and appeals.
However, as she and her five kids were compelled to leave their rental house in Woodland Hills, she found it impossible to stay quiet any longer.
In her lengthy caption, she wrote, ‘For days, I had hoped not to, but ended up witnessing devastation, staying vigilant, and living with anxiety: that’s what I had to describe.’
I chose not to post or share on social media because it was already filled with heartwarming kindness, tragic losses, useful resources, and heartfelt appeals. I wanted to avoid adding more of the same.
However, last night, we were forced to evacuate. I made every effort to remain, not to run aimlessly, but eventually, we had no other choice. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost and endured so much. Yet, as a mother of five children and pets, instinct tells you when it’s time to act.
Previously on Dancing with the Stars, the former contestant admitted that although friends advised her to leave earlier, she didn’t act promptly – a decision she now laments, advising others not to repeat her error.
She went on saying: ‘Not only the fantastic apps and broadcasts that have been providing updates, but also an unexpected journey in an SUV with five children, three large dogs, a cat, and a ferret. For days, friends who care have advised me to prepare and plan ahead. I should have heeded their advice.’
Afterward, it became known that she, along with her kids and beloved pets, had left the region without a clear destination in mind. Fortunately, a friend who was connected to Airbnb arranged temporary lodging for them during this transition.
Torri explained, ‘I managed to squeeze everyone in with just enough room, and nothing on. I grabbed some photo albums and panicked without any plan. So, I contacted my new friend, Jami Schwartz.’
At the IHeart Jingle Ball in December, she casually mentioned that she’s associated with Airbnb. I thought it was a remote possibility, but as I was driving my children on Highway 101 North without a clear destination, she unexpectedly got back to me! Airbnb came through for us!
In an amazing turn of events, not only did Jami and Taylor miraculously find a place big enough for our large family and pets on the very same day, but we were incredibly thankful because my children were scared and one had severe asthma. Despite this, I bravely drove us to safety.
As Tori looked back on her harrowing experience, she remembered her kids questioning her judgment when it seemed like she was driving straight towards the flames.

Tori pondered over the challenging trip and remembered how her children doubted her decisions as she appeared to be heading into the blaze.
or
Recalling the arduous voyage, Tori thought back to the moments when her kids questioned her wisdom, seeing her seem to plunge into the conflagration.
As smoke wafted from the car’s vents, Tori hastily advised her children to protect their faces, and then sped off to transport them swiftly to safety.
She shared that her children asked, “Mom, aren’t we going the wrong way? The freeway in the opposite direction is at a standstill. We seem to be driving straight towards the fires.
Certainly, ‘Yes, that was our situation. The maternal instinct kicked in, and I continued driving north on Highway 101. As we navigated through the smoke filling the car vents… I advised my kids to take deep breaths, hold them, and cover their faces with their T-shirts.’
I continued, “I declared then, ‘This is both terrifying and promising. We’ll navigate through it and beyond. Everything will be alright, I assure you all.'” We persevered, leaving behind the blazing Los Angeles. Yes, we were indeed among the fortunate ones. It seemed as if a scene from a movie I’d watched countless times before.
Through Tori’s contacts at Airbnb, she managed to secure a place for her family to stay, which she described as having a beautiful koi pond and serving as a shelter for monarch butterflies.
From February 2024 onwards, the woman with blonde hair and her kids have resided in a spacious two-story house located in Woodland Hills, California, which features five bedrooms and three bathrooms.
After announcing her divorce from her husband of 17 years, Dean McDermott, she decided to relocate to a rental property.
