In 2022, the popular songwriter spent several months in the hospital due to a mysterious ailment, which eventually resolved itself.

The unknown illness caused her to lose the ability to walk, and she confessed that she feared she might not survive this difficult experience.

She shared with Today that her health was extremely poor. She became severely ill to the point where she could no longer perform her job duties, and this was a significant change because she had been working consistently for many years without a break.

She recognized that the encounter served as a significant reminder when she understood that due to her health, she was unable to engage in numerous activities she cherished.

‘I had to take time to take care of myself,’ she said.

While working to improve the state of her health, she felt inspired to make music.

She pondered over the fact that she had spent a significant amount of her life chasing goals, pleasing others, and striving for success.

She mentioned that the illness significantly altered her perspective, which is why she created the album – a complete work that she launched in April.

Anitta shared, “I created ‘Funk Generation’ from my hospital bed. It struck me, I wanted an album just like this – something I could be truly proud of, even if it turned out to be my last work.

And that’s exactly what she did.

This album makes me incredibly proud, as I didn’t create it with a focus on streams, algorithms, or numbers in mind.

‘I thought just about having fun and loving what I did,’ she gushed.
