Exchange Shutdowns? Don’t Get Your Hopes Up, You Greedy Bastards

Oh, fantastic. Another round of “is this the bottom?” from the crypto geniuses. Because nothing says “market turning point” like a few exchanges shutting down, right? It’s like saying a restaurant closing is a sign that everyone else is about to get Michelin stars.

Analyst Joao Wedson, presumably the only one who bothered to look at a spreadsheet, says the data doesn’t support this. And you know what? I’m inclined to believe the guy who actually looked at numbers instead of just sniffing his own farts.

Let’s Debunk This Nonsense, Shall We?

Wedson points out that only nine exchanges have shut down so far in 2026. That’s the lowest in eight years! But sure, let’s pretend that’s the same as the FTX massacre, when Bitcoin was at $16,000 and everyone was crying into their ramen. Now it’s at $63,500 and hardly anyone blinked. But please, tell me more about your “cycle bottom” theory.

“This is exactly why data matters. Data helps eliminate narratives, unsupported conclusions, and assumptions that are repeatedly presented as facts by market analysts.”

Translation: Stop making stuff up to feel important.

So BitMEX, AscendEX, and BitMart are winding down. And Odos is closing on July 30. And Dango, the “Endgame Exchange,” is shutting down its blockchain on August 13. Oh, and Storj Labs filed for Chapter 11. But sure, these are all signs of a bottom, not just a few businesses that couldn’t hack it. It’s called capitalism, people. Some win, some lose. It doesn’t mean the whole market is throwing a pity party.

But wait! Fundstrat’s Tom Lee says these events happen at the bottom. Moonrock Capital’s Simon Dedi calls it a “bullish sign.” And Ivan on Tech tweeted, “old has to die for new to grow.” Oh, how profound. It’s like a fortune cookie written by a 14-year-old.

Remember when FTX collapsed and Bitcoin tanked to $16,000? That was a real bottom. Now? The price barely flinched. So either the market is too stupid to recognize a bottom, or your theory is just wishful thinking. I’m going with the latter.

The Debate Continues, Because Of Course It Does

Grayscale thinks the bottom is in because Bitcoin has “matured.” Matured? It’s still more volatile than my Aunt Sylvia at a bingo game. They blame macro factors now, because admitting you don’t know is bad for business.

And then you have Doctor Profit and Ali Martinez, who see this as a “buying opportunity.” The $54,000-$64,000 range is “historically strong.” Oh, so you’re saying it might go lower? Great advice. “Buy now, but don’t expect the bottom.” That’s like saying, “Here’s a parachute, but it might not open.”

Look, if you want to buy, buy. But don’t pretend exchange shutdowns are some cosmic signal. They’re just businesses failing. It happens. It’s not a prophecy.
