Taron Egerton’s thriller becomes one of the most-watched Netflix movies ever

Taron Egerton’s suspenseful film “Carry-On” climbed its way to becoming one of the most popular Netflix movies, securing the fifth position in Netflix’s list of the most-viewed English-language films.

Based on data from Netflix, the thriller has been watched approximately 149.4 million times since it debuted on December 13, accumulating a total of 298.7 million hours of viewing time.

2021’s [Netflix film] has surpassed the viewership of “Leave the World Behind” (143.4M), “The Gray Man” (139.3M), “Damsel” (138M) from 2024, “We Can Be Heroes” (137.3M) from 2020, and “The Mother” (136.4M) of 2023, making it my top pick among these popular movies on the streaming platform.

In other words, the film ‘Carry-On’ has bumped the 2022 murder mystery movie ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ down from the top 10 list of most-watched English-language movies on Netflix. Previously, it held the 10th spot with a total view count of approximately 136.3 million.

This week, “Carry-On” racked up an impressive 17.4 million views, equating to a whopping 34.7 million hours of watch time. At present, it continues to hold a place in the top 10 most watched videos worldwide for four consecutive weeks.

In 2024, the film that recorded the largest Netflix premiere features Egerton portraying Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent working at an airport, who finds himself in a predicament on Christmas Eve when he’s threatened to allow a potentially hazardous package to pass through security undetected.

Additionally starring along with Egerton, we have Jason Bateman, Dean Norris, Danielle Deadwyler, Theo Rossi, Sinqua Walls, and Logan Marshall-Green.

Recently, Egerton hinted at the potential for a sequel to the thriller, expressing his willingness to reprise the role if the plot seemed fitting.

In an interview with Today, he expressed that the situation seems unique and extraordinary, suggesting it would require a groundbreaking, imaginative concept to be considered fitting for a follow-up. However, he’s open to the idea as well.

In addition, Egerton expressed admiration for his fellow actor, Sofia Carson. He mentioned that if a sequel were to happen, it would certainly be intriguing to know what she might be involved in next.
