Kevin Costner breaks his silence on Yellowstone finale and Luke Grimes ‘feud’ in shock video
As a seasoned viewer of the small screen, I must admit that the life and career of Kevin Costner has always been nothing short of captivating. His ability to breathe life into characters like John Dutton on “Yellowstone” is truly a testament to his acting prowess.
Kevin Costner has spoken up about the surprising ending of Yellowstone and the alleged disagreement between him and a past cast member, Luke Grimes.
As an ardent admirer putting it in my own words, I can’t help but express my fascination as the legendary actor, 69, who parted ways with showrunner Taylor Sheridan during a creative disagreement, graced the streets of Aspen mere days after the series finale. This move comes weeks following the heart-wrenching scene where his character, John Dutton, was portrayed to have committed a staged suicide.
According to a private video shared with DailyMail.com, the Academy Award recipient expressed: “I haven’t been pondering over [the Yellowstone finale]; truthfully, it hasn’t crossed my mind at all. We should simply move on from it.
Additionally, he dismissed a query regarding the rumored rift between himself and the actor who plays his on-screen son, Kayce Dutton (Grimes), and disclosed that there hasn’t been any communication between them since the series finale was broadcast.
In the series, the character played by Kevin met an unforeseen end when he was mysteriously murdered as part of a contract killing in the second part of Yellowstone’s fifth season opener.
In the opening moments of the debut, it quickly became clear that his character met an untimely end, having taken his own life through a self-inflicted gunshot wound – following Kevin’s contentious departure from the series due to scheduling disagreements with his Horizon Western movie franchise.
Ever since the series concluded, I’ve been intrigued by the impact Kevin Costner’s exit had on the filming dynamics, as Grimes has been openly expressing his insights. It’s fascinating to see how such a shift can reshape the creative process.
Just last week, Luke disclosed that working without the two-time Academy Award laureate significantly eased things up for him and the entire acting troupe.
Luke commented on Kevin’s departure from the neo-Western drama, stating, ‘I think it’s clear to everyone now, it was long overdue.’ He added, ‘In reality, with Kevin leaving, some of the conflicts within the storyline would also disappear.’
He continued: ‘Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around… Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed.’
Later on, Men’s Health inquired about his current relationship with the person, and he replied: “No, we haven’t spoken since then. There’s no bad blood or anything like that; it’s simply because… he’s Kevin Costner,” he chuckled.
Luke mentioned, “He’s quite influential. Incidentally, I do have his contact details; however, I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to initiate contact. If he wishes to connect with me, he is welcome to do so.
Luke commented to Men’s Health that “none of us anticipated it unfolding as it did, and naturally, there were rumors circulating about potential conflicts behind closed doors. However, much like real-life situations, unexpected events occur swiftly and unpredictably.
Adding: ‘I lost my father a few years ago. It happened fast, and it was not the way that you would think that that would happen. In life, these things happen and then people have to start making decisions.’
Luke noted: ‘And in our little Yellowstone world, that helped ramp the show up into a boil.’
Previously, Luke reminded viewers that it was ‘always the plan’ to have John die.
As the die-hard fan I am, it’s no secret that the mastermind behind this tale had always intended for the central character to depart, setting the stage for an even more gripping narrative. And that’s exactly what happened. We witnessed the departure of our family patriarch. Now, the question on everyone’s mind is: Can his children stand tall and carry on the legacy he built? That’s the heart-wrenching twist this story took, as shared with People magazine.
It has been acknowledged that there were unfavorable responses following the disclosure of Dutton’s death, initially believed to be a suicide, but later unveiled as a contract killing carried out by a firm known for staging homicides to resemble accidental or suicidal deaths. Most fans found this alternative explanation hard to accept.
Luke remarked, “I believe they might feel a sense of disappointment. To address this, I’d add that we all considered ourselves fortunate to have Kevin on the program for as long as we did.
He also added that the original plan was to kill off John Dutton much earlier in the story.
Luke commented, “It seems John Dutton was meant to pass away much sooner. In essence, they’ve had significantly more of him than initially anticipated. Just something to consider.
He went on to say, ‘If events unfolded so abruptly, as if life has its own unexpected timeline, that seems about right, doesn’t it? Loss often doesn’t follow our plans or our expectations.’
In June, it was disclosed that when Kevin was initially presented with the show concept by Sheridan, his character had originally been planned for a single season’s run.
In his own words, Taylor Sheridan initially proposed the project as a single season, resembling a lengthy film – a format that appealed to him. However, in the end, it seemed the studio wasn’t comfortable with that concept.
As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur, I expressed confidently, “Given my extensive writing background, I am more than capable of creating an ongoing series, if you will.
He ultimately ‘stepped up’ and agreed to, ‘do it for three seasons, and I ended up doing it for five.’
Furthermore, he expressed admiration for Sheridan, mentioning that he found the writing captivating and was particularly fond of Taylor’s work.
In a skillful manner, Costner noted that he had a grasp of contemporary ranch life and could generate various forms of tension within it, yet efficiently.
