Borderlands 4 to Apparently Scale Back Toilet Humour and Meme References

As a seasoned Borderlands fan who has spent countless hours looting, shooting, and laughing at the game’s eccentric humor, I find the news about Borderlands 4 intriguing. I’ve always appreciated the quirky wit that this series offers, but I must admit, sometimes the toilet humor got a bit excessive in Borderlands 3.

As per the Borderlands 4’s Narrative Director, it seems that the upcoming game will reduce its excessive use of bathroom humor and internet jokes. However, expect to see toilets in the game, but don’t count on hearing ‘skibidi’ anymore.

According to Sam Winkler, the Narrative Director, “Borderlands 4” is our most daring project so far. To uphold this ambition, I’m thrilled to have collaborated with some incredibly funny individuals as freelance writers.

In response to a fan’s query on social media, Winkler mentioned that he can’t discuss too many details about BL4, but he continues to voice his criticism towards the excessive amount of bathroom humor in BL3.

Winkler stated, ‘I won’t claim there are no toilets, but if the term ‘skibidi’ appears in the game during my tenure, I’ll shed genuine tears.’ Similarly, Paul Tassi joked about a gun named Hawk 2A, and when another developer asked me if it was true, I felt like I wanted to stick my hand into the garbage disposal.

The term “Hawk 2A” is linked to the popular “Hawk Tuah” internet meme, stemming from an interview. On the other hand, “Skibidi” is associated with the YouTube series “Skibidi Toilet,” a production created using Valve’s Garry’s Mod, featuring a strange head inside a toilet. Regrettably, I’m not familiar with either of these references.

Given the criticism Borderlands 3 has received for its occasionally crude bathroom humor, it might be wise for Borderlands 4, set to release around 2025, to venture into a somewhat new direction in terms of its comedic approach.
