As a huge movie fan, I’ve noticed something lately: so many horror films feel like they’re made to be franchises, rather than just good movies. It’s like the story itself comes second. But the truly great franchises? They started with a genuinely terrifying and well-told story, and then the sequels naturally followed. It’s a simple idea, but it makes all the difference.

South Korean action-comedy films have consistently delivered fantastic entertainment for the past twenty years. For almost ten years, Chris Evans was Captain America, and it was incredibly reassuring for fans to see him pop up, even for a quick scene. It gave the Marvel Cinematic Universe this lovely sense of consistency. That’s something DC could really benefit from with David Corenswet as Superman. If they can make him a consistent, recognizable presence, it would instantly help the DC Universe feel more established and give Superman that same kind of staying power – a true franchise pillar. It’s a small thing, but it could make a huge difference in turning them into real rivals with Marvel.

As a huge sci-fi fan, I’ve always felt these films deserve way more attention. They each bring something unique to the genre, but they often get overlooked compared to classics like Blade Runner or Interstellar. Honestly, if you’re craving a fantastic dystopian story you haven’t seen before, these are definitely worth checking out – they’re real hidden gems!

The German series Unfamiliar, created by Paul Coates, offers a different take on spy thrillers. Instead of focusing on large-scale events, it centers on the relationship between two former spies and how their past is now affecting them. If the show does well, it could prove that audiences are interested in spy stories built around characters and their connections, rather than just global conflicts.
