Daisy Ridley's Rey to lead new Star Wars trilogy detached from Skywalker Saga

As a seasoned gamer, who’s spent countless hours immersed in the galaxy far, far away, the prospect of a new Star Wars trilogy featuring Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker is nothing short of exhilarating. After years of disappointment and unfulfilled promises, it seems that Lucasfilm might finally be getting it right.

According to whispers, it seems possible that the upcoming Star Wars trilogy might include Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey Skywalker.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the concept originates from Lucasfilm bringing on board Simon Kinberg, known for his work on Star Wars Rebels, to kickstart a fresh space opera saga. Contrary to popular belief, this new trilogy won’t be an extension of the Skywalker Saga, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. While familiar faces might make appearances in secondary roles, the primary narrative will introduce a completely new story and characters.

In upcoming “Star Wars” films, it’s expected that Rey, portrayed by Ridley, who was unfairly criticized for her role in the sequel movies, will play a significant part. A standalone film focused on Rey, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, has been announced but its progress remains unclear, much like other “Star Wars” projects. However, Ridley has been open about the film’s development so far.

The rumor concerning Rey’s upcoming trilogy surfaces here. A reliable source connected to the franchise revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that “Rey currently stands as the most precious cinematic asset, in certain aspects perhaps being the only one, Star Wars currently possesses.

Essentially, Rey is Lucasfilm’s last chance to advance the franchise as all the major characters – Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Kylo Ren, Anakin, and Obi-Wan Kenobi – are deceased in the present storyline. Characters from Disney+ prequels might have roles, but they cannot influence future events directly.

In simpler terms, Rey seems to be the key character who links the new Star Wars trilogy with the established storyline. Additionally, being ‘The Last Jedi’ gives her an important role. Essentially, the movies could use her character to address some issues in the sequels and provide a true beginning for something new, rather than relying on nostalgia from the Skywalker Saga.

A more logical progression might involve depicting Rey as the leader of a new Jedi faction, an evolution from the academy that Luke was attempting to establish. This scenario would provide ample opportunity to develop Rey’s character beyond her roles as Luke’s pupil, Palpatine’s granddaughter, or the Force-linked individual with Kylo Ren.

“You’re being asked to create the new New Testament”

Ever since the sequels concluded, the Star Wars movie franchise has unfortunately been a series of unfulfilled expectations. Many of the projects that were initially promised have ultimately been abandoned for various reasons. Currently, there are several films being developed at various stages in the timeline.

James Mangold’s “Dawn of the Jedi” is positioned 25,000 years prior to the occurrences in “Star Wars: A New Hope”, delving into the antiquated past of the Jedi and the unearthing of the Force. Meanwhile, Taika Waititi, Shawn Levy, Donald Glover, and others are engaged on separate projects, with no official titles or release dates confirmed as of yet. Additionally, a “Rogue Squadron” film is rumored to be in development stages.

A source shared with THR their insights into the process of producing new Star Wars material. They described it as a task akin to writing the new New Testament, with the original trilogy serving as the Old Testament. There’s much disagreement and second-guessing about the meaning and direction of the content. The only feature film we have confirmation of at this point is the one by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, which focuses on characters and storylines from the Mandoverse.

For now, we’ll have to simply wait and see if and when this all comes to pass.
