Spider-Man: Brand New Day is keeping Sadie Sink’s character a mystery for a “very real reason”

With the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiering soon, we’re about to discover which character Sadie Sink, known for her role in Stranger Things, plays – a secret that those involved with the film have kept under wraps for months.

Most people believe Anya Taylor-Joy will play Jean Grey, the strong psychic character from the X-Men. This is based on her red hair and the fact that Marvel is starting to include mutants in its movies.

Some fans believe she could be portraying Rachel Summers, Jean Grey’s daughter who shares similar abilities and appearance.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, the movie’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, discussed how much effort went into keeping details under wraps and his concern that viewers would be unhappy if the film didn’t deliver a good resolution.

“If people are gonna get mad, I can’t control that!” he said.

What to Read Next

I’d prefer if things weren’t so openly shared. Some people are curious about everything, while others aren’t. Personally, I like to go into things knowing as little as possible – for example, I avoid watching trailers before I see a movie.

The movie has a good reason for keeping Sadie Sink’s character a secret, and you’ll understand when you see it. You probably won’t mind the surprise – in fact, you might be happy you didn’t know beforehand.

Cretton also reflected on his working relationship with Sink, explaining that they go back years.

“I worked with Sadie when she was, I think, 14 years old”, he said.

I actually got to collaborate with Jeannette Walls on The Glass Castle a while back, and I’ve been following what she’s done ever since. So it’s really awesome to be working with her again now – it’s been years! It feels great to reconnect on another project.

I saw her perform in John Proctor Is the Villain on Broadway, and she completely blew me away. I was crying by the end! Her work in this film is just as incredible – truly amazing.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will released in cinemas on 28 July.
