Joe Lycett’s dramatic baby U-turn as he ‘loves being a dad’ after admitting he was ‘too self adsorbed’ for kids just a few years ago
As a curious observer of public figures and their personal lives, I find Joe Lycett’s journey fascinating. His openness about his sexuality, his witty humor, and his unapologetic approach to addressing societal norms are truly captivating.
Previously, Joe Lycett confessed that he was too engrossed in himself to consider having a baby; however, he later had a significant change of heart and decided to become a father instead.
On Saturday, the 36-year-old comic took fans by surprise when he revealed he had become a father for the first time with an unidentified partner, leading some to speculate whether this news might actually be a joke.
However, by the year 2017, prior to turning 30, Joe unequivocally expressed that he was not prepared for parenthood and indicated he might not be ready for several centuries, roughly 3400 years.
In an article titled “Help! My friends and I are approaching 30 and it seems like everyone is having babies!” published in The Guardian, he wrote: ‘As I turn 30 next year, so do most of my friends, which means it appears that the baby express is about to depart for me and my group.’
Clearly, I find myself single, without direction, and mostly preoccupied with myself. I have no desire for a tiny dependent, whether a ‘Oliver’ or an ‘Olivia’, to scamper around, nibbling on my cookies.
‘My friends, on the other hand, are procreating like humanity depends on it, and it doesn’t.’
After being invited for dinner by my friends, I was taken aback when they casually mentioned their plans to start a family – this revelation left me so stunned that I ended up shattering my wine glass.
Joe conceded that he does take a liking to children and harbors a deep desire for parenthood. He went on to say, “I believe I would excel as a father, but not at this moment, and I can’t envision myself prepared within the next 3-400 years.
‘It’s just that I’ve got so much other stuff I want to do first, like take a three-hour bath every day and write totally idiotic jokes the whole time.’
The update, which left people puzzled, came following the news that Joe became a father this past weekend.
In a surprising turn of events, the well-known charlatan casually brought up Autotrader in his latest post, stating, “Regarding this matter, we won’t be accepting any media inquiries since we’ve already transferred the rights for the first family photo to Autotrader.
He didn’t provide more details about the brand or confirm if there was any arrangement with the automaker, leaving the information unclear.
Following Joe’s announcement, Autotrader wrote: ‘Once more, congratulations, Joe! We eagerly look forward to sharing pictures of the Mini Cooper Lycett.’
This week, Autotrader is debuting a novel digital initiative that allows families to post photos on their website, inspired by a recent post from Joe. Through this feature, families can now share glimpses of their daily lives.
As a dedicated follower, I understand this initiative seems to empower customers to share cherished family portraits with their dear ones. Judging by his recent post, it seems Joe is engaged in some way with this project or campaign.
Joely Cett shared on social media that our company has ventured into the family photo industry. Although we primarily deal with car trading, we found ourselves intrigued by this new opportunity. Soon, we will launch what promises to be an exceptional family photo album…#TinyTrader
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I am thrilled to share that due to an overwhelming response following our recent announcement, we have expedited the development process to introduce our latest offering – the Family Photo Gallery.

After Joe jokingly addressed the confusion about his sexuality, he humorously posted something related to pansexuality.
The birth announcement sparked speculation that it was an elaborate stunt by the the serial prankster, while the topic of his sexuality came to the forefront amid the baby news.
On Monday, Joe humorously shared insights about sexuality on Instagram, following earlier comments where he corrected fans who had mistakenly thought he was exclusively attracted to men.
The vibrant comedian, known as well for his self-taught artistic skills, posted an artwork depicting a pangolin named ‘Pansexual’, created using acrylic and gouache paints on canvas, dated 2024.
In a characteristic Joe style, he clarified the misconceptions about pansexuality in his writing, stating: “Over the past few days, there has been a lot of incorrect information circulating regarding pansexuality. Here is a correct explanation.
‘Pansexuality, in a somewhat unconventional analogy, shares a resemblance with the behavior of pangolins, particularly their mating patterns. Unlike its human counterpart, pansexuality in this context doesn’t refer to sexual orientation or gender but rather to specific seasonal and olfactory-based mating rituals that are unique to these animals.’
If someone shares with you that they identify as pansexual, it’s important to remember this refers to their sexual orientation and has nothing to do with their physical characteristics or behaviors. Instead of focusing on their nostrils in late spring, simply continue your conversation with them with respect and understanding for their identity.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d like to share a fascinating insight about preferences among certain individuals: they tend to be drawn towards the scents of blueberry-flavored disposable vapes, unsweetened Alpro soy milk, nail varnish remover, and even coins. However, it’s crucial to note that a lamb korma should never be placed near a pansexual individual, as chicken jalfrezi seems to be their preferred choice. I trust this sheds some light on the topic!
It came as Joe revealed his ideal partner in a unearthed interview following the shock baby news.
The humorist openly stated that they don’t consider gender when choosing their perfect match; instead, they seek someone with whom they can feel at ease.
In 2015, he shared his thoughts on dating apps like Tinder, stating, “I’ve given it a try, but I’m more emotionally-driven than sexually-inclined.
Of his ideal partner, he added: ‘Someone to lie there with eating chocolate. That’s the dream.’
He additionally disclosed that pansexuality is the sexual orientation he identifies with most closely, and that a person’s thighs hold the greatest allure for him.
Throughout his illustrious career, Joe has maintained a veil of secrecy over his personal relationships and shared scant details about former or present companions. However, he’s given subtle clues about the qualities that attract him in a person.
Previously, he expressed: “I use the term ‘bisexual,’ as it’s simpler for others to grasp, but in reality, it doesn’t fully align with my thoughts.” (In a more conversational tone: He uses the label ‘bisexual’ because it’s easier for people to understand, but it’s not exactly how he sees himself.)
It appears that the term ‘pansexual’ best fits my description, as my attraction can vary based on factors beyond physical characteristics.
Occasionally, you might find yourself admiring someone’s thighs and thinking something like, ‘Wow, impressive, indeed,’ however, other aspects may not captivate your interest in the same way.
‘It’s not entirely to do with gender – it’s to do with where you’re at, your upbringing and the kind of person you are. It’s really complicated, like life is.’
After stunning fans on Friday with the news that he had become a father, an interview he gave has since been unveiled, where he posted a heartwarming photo of him holding his newborn son on Instagram.
The news emerged following the television comedian’s disclosure about his relationship with his secret companion, who he initially introduced in April.
Next to the image, Joe wrote on Instagram: “A heartfelt thank you note from me to the exceptional Bham Women’s Hospital.
My initial interaction with them took place quite some time back, when they were taking care of a friend of mine during surgery. More recently, they skillfully assisted in the delivery of my son, who is a little boy.
‘The extraordinary care and kindness shown by his mother and themselves – from prenatal classes, exceptional midwives, medical professionals like consultants and doctors, nurses, and continuous community support – was truly remarkable. We even enjoyed their homemade baked potatoes! Birmingham is incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated individuals, and I will always be deeply grateful for their tireless efforts.’
I’m thoroughly enjoying my role as a father, but it seems that this joyful responsibility might prevent me from backing out of appearing on Rob and Josh’s podcast. We won’t be entertaining any inquiries about this matter, as we’ve already agreed to let Autotrader have the exclusive rights for our first family photo.
The charming photo captures Joe putting his black overcoat around the little one, who sports a blue knit beanie, while they walk outdoors together.
The star is seen looking tenderly down at his boy as he carefully holds him to his chest.
Supporters swiftly expressed their well wishes towards the comedian, but some harbored doubts if it was genuine or perhaps a clever hoax – something the celebrity has a reputation for pulling off.
Comments included: ‘I can’t tell if this is satire but I’m here for it either way.’
I’m offering my congratulations, yet in the back of my mind, it seems just as plausible to me that whatever is under your hat might be a pet like a dog or cat, or even an unusual object such as a gearbox.
‘Congratulations!! (unless this is an elaborate prank in which case, congratulations!)’
‘I never know what’s real and what’s not when Lycett is involved.’
However, Birmingham Women’s Hospital added a heartfelt comment which read ‘Massive congratulations again to you all. We’re so proud to have supported you on this incredible life-changing milestone. We wish you all the best and lots of gorgeous cuddles for the future.’
Additionally, numerous celebrities such as Judi Love, Clara Amfo, and John Whaite sent out heartfelt congratulations.
The news comes after Joe recently opened up about his sexuality and spoke about his secret girlfriend ‘Denise’.
On The Pieces podcast with Bimini Bon-Boulash, Joe shared an uncommon perspective on his romantic life by revealing that he uses a false name to protect the privacy of his partner.
He said: ‘So I’ve got Winston the cat, and my partner Denise. And, um, she’s not called Denise, but I don’t talk about her, because she has a job that she can’t be in the public eye.
‘I call her Denise because she hates the name Denise, so, uh, I live with Denise.’
As an open advocate of my sexuality, I had the opportunity to engage in a conversation with the renowned figure from RuPaul’s Drag Race, discussing our shared identity as pansexuals.
He expressed: “It’s intriguing to be in a long-term partnership with a woman, as many people seem surprised. At one point during my school years, I assumed that because I was attracted to men, I must be gay. But then I paused and said, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, let me explain.’
When someone inquires, I simply respond with ‘bisexual’ as it’s a term widely recognized and easily understood by many.
To truly capture who I am, I’d say I identify as pansexual. This simply means that for me, the essence of a person’s spirit, rather than their gender, is what I find alluring.
Joe continued by admitting that at times he finds it challenging to clarify his sexuality, and added humorously: ‘I’m still figuring out the mechanics of it, if you will. I mean, I’m unsure about how to express it, particularly when trying to explain it to those who may not fully understand. It’s difficult because I’m not exclusively attracted to men, but rather, I find attraction based on individuals, not their gender.’
Frequently, having a well-defined upper body can be sufficient, especially the midsection area. I mean, those defined abs. Exactly, the lines. It seems the torso can be quite captivating. An attractive arm too.
Absolutely, it makes no difference whether we’re talking about someone’s gender or anything else. To be honest, I can’t explain why this is the case, but that seems to be how things are. It’s peculiar because to me, this implies that sexuality isn’t limited to male or female orientations.
In simpler terms, my mind leans towards identifying as pansexual, which means I have the potential to be attracted to any gender. Therefore, this is how I view my personal identity.
In his most recent episode of Late Night Lycett on Channel 4, Joe shared for the first time about his newfound affection.
Kicking off the program, he announced, “Much has transpired since our previous season; there’s some exciting news to share – I now have a girlfriend.
For quite some time, I’ve openly discussed my identity as bisexual, yet many seem to perceive me as exclusively homosexual due to my overall demeanor. However, I should clarify that I do in fact have a girlfriend, and the response from people has been remarkably kind.
Joe humorously mentioned that he had received a letter from the Pope about his new relationship, saying it read “one down.” (In this context, “one down” is a way of expressing that he’s in a relationship.)
Joe frequently gains recognition for his attention-grabbing feats, such as the time he switched his name to “Hugo Boss” in 2020.
Additionally, he ripped £10,000 in a well-publicized argument with David Beckham, whom he openly criticized for serving as an ambassador for Qatar during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
