Seth Rogen was ‘hurt’ by James Franco after Hey Joe actor revealed their 20 year friendship is ‘over’
As a dedicated follower of the entertainment industry for over two decades, I have witnessed many friendships and collaborations that have shaped the landscape of comedy. One such duo was Seth Rogen and James Franco, whose friendship spanned 20 years and produced some of the funniest films we’ve enjoyed. However, their bond has been irrevocably damaged by the sexual misconduct allegations against Franco, which I find utterly disheartening.
Seth Rogen believes that his relationship with James Franco may not recover following his decision to sever ties for professional reasons.
For two decades, they were close friends and starred in successful comedies. However, Franco’s scandal involving sexual misconduct dismantled their friendship.
Last week, Franco, aged 46, discussed the strain in his relationship with his Pineapple Express co-star, who is 42 years old, during an interview with Variety. He stated that he has made efforts to mend their friendship but unfortunately, those attempts have not been successful.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share some intriguing news that’s been buzzing around. Insiders have spilled the beans to DailyMail.com that under no circumstances will my beloved Seth Rogen rekindle his ties with someone implicated in such heinous actions. He firmly stands against any association with such horrendous allegations, and I wholeheartedly support his stance.
A source revealed to DailyMail.com that it’s highly unlikely Seth will rekindle a friendship with James Franco in any conceivable future.
‘The bond they shared and their collaborative efforts were truly extraordinary, but for Seth to progress personally and professionally, he felt compelled to part ways with James.’
‘Seth prefers not to associate with individuals who have faced serious allegations. Unfortunately, he had to cut ties with James abruptly, which was painful.’
In a chat prior to the premiere of his upcoming movie, Hey Joe, Franco, currently in a relationship with Izabel Pakzad (age 28), shared with Variety: ‘I haven’t interacted with Seth lately. I hold Seth dear, we spent 20 wonderful years together, but it seems our time may have passed.’
‘And not for lack of trying.’
He added: ‘I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me.’
In January 2018, five individuals shared their experiences with The Los Angeles Times, claiming that Franco behaved in a sexually inappropriate or exploitative manner towards them.
One claimed he removed plastic guards from actress’ vulvas during a sex scene while simulating oral sex.
In 2019, Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gaal filed a lawsuit against Franco, alleging that he aimed to establish a continuous supply of young women who were exposed to his personal and professional sexual misconduct under the guise of education, during their time at his Studio 4 acting school.
At the time, he denied the allegations via his attorney.
He eventually settled the lawsuit for $2.2 million in July 2021.
To begin with, when the accusations arose, it seemed as though Rogen supported Franco and declared to Vulture that he planned to keep working together.
However, by May 2021, he openly changed his stance, informing The Sunday Times that their friendship and professional relationship had ended.
In simpler terms, Seth Rogen expressed that he detests mistreatment and bullying, and he would never hide or minimize such behavior nor place someone in a setting where they’d be near someone engaging in it.
In that 2018 interview, I mentioned I’d continue collaborating with James, but since then, we haven’t worked together, and at the moment, there are no plans for it. As for our friendship, I’m not able to clearly define it in this current interview.
Initially, this well-known pair from Hollywood worked together in 1999 for the critically acclaimed series Freaks and Geeks. Subsequently, they produced a sequence of blockbuster films such as This Is the End (a comedy about the apocalypse), Knocked Up, The Disaster Artist, and The Interview.
Since the scandal broke, Franco has mainly avoided public attention, as it occurred about four years after he was exposed for attempting to arrange a date with a 17-year-old.
He admitted to flirting with Scottish tourist Lucy Clode via Instagram and text messages during her visit to New York City.
‘I used bad judgment,’ he later said of his actions. ‘I learned my lesson.’
He is currently gearing up for his next movie Hey Joe, his second release since his lawsuit.
Under the guidance of director Claudio Giovannesi, this film chronicles the journey of Franco’s character, Dean Barry – a U.S. veteran from World War II who spent 25 years away and is now reconnecting with his son in Naples.
The film had its opening at the 19th Rome Film Festival this past Friday, with plans for a cinema launch in Italy set for November 28th.
