A 7News Brisbane promo has been labelled ‘disrespectful’ towards former anchor Sharyn Ghidella.
7News, based in Queensland, dismissed their longtime news presenter (age 57) this year, after nearly 17 years with the company, during a wave of layoffs affecting the media industry.
In the promotional video, 7News anchor Max Futcher introduces Sarah Greenhalgh as Ghidella’s successor in a surprising manner.
He predicts there will be two individuals who are extremely dedicated to news, unlike any you’ve encountered in Queensland before, as he states briefly.
The line has caused a stir, with many news industry insiders viewing it as a ‘jab’ at Ghidella.
According to a source, many people view this promotion as not just an attack on Sharyn, but also a disrespectful gesture towards veteran presenters who have spent decades in the field.
‘It’s just disrespectful,’ they added.
It is said that insiders took offense when Futcher referred to Greenhalgh, who is 34 years old, as “still young” in a promotional video, as it seemed to imply that Ghidella, possibly older, was too old to be reading the news.
Since 2013, Ghidella has been delivering the Brisbane news broadcast for the network. However, she was let go from her position earlier this year after 17 years on the job.
Sharyn confirmed the news of her job loss in a fiery Facebook post, revealing how she learnt of her role being cut while at the hair salon.
After several anxious weeks of job cuts, she took aim at the failing network for prioritising gimmicks like astrology readings over keeping veteran talent.

She said her recent time at the network had been ‘miserable’ and she was glad to be heading out the door.
In her writing, she expressed a mix of feelings about the decision, including a touch of sadness but also a sense of comfort. As you may know from recent news, the last few weeks on television have unfortunately been quite distressing.
