As a devoted fan of dark comedies and true crime podcasts, I eagerly anticipate the return of “Based on a True Story” for its second season. Having spent countless hours dissecting evidence boards and binge-watching true crime documentaries, I can’t help but feel that Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina have somehow tapped into my own subconscious when they created this show.
Based on a True Story spoilers follow.
In the trailer for the second season of “Based on a True Story,” Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina find themselves embroiled in even greater trouble, hinting at more murderous complications.
In the next chapter of our witty crime tale, Ava, played by Cuoco, who can’t get enough of true crime, and her husband Nathan, portrayed by Messina, navigate through the joys and challenges of parenthood. Meanwhile, a murderer mimicking a previous killer is causing chaos in their lives.
In the first season, they choose to leverage their unintended link to a notorious serial killer and collaborate with him on a genuine crime podcast.

In the next chapter, previously notorious criminal known as the Westside Ripper or Matt (played by Tom Bateman), will propose to Tory (portrayed by Liana Liberato), who is Ava’s younger sibling.
In a chilling turn of events, an unidentified individual imitating Matt’s horrific murders remains on the loose. Now, it falls upon Ava and Nathan, fresh parents, to uncover the truth and safeguard Tory, as their peculiar bond with Matt persists. Yet, can they trust Matt when he claims innocence amidst this surge of gruesome activities? Is he telling the truth, or is there more to his story?
Prepare for some absurdities, additional clue-filled displays, and a couple of unforeseen twists as the unwilling inquiry of Ava and Nathan takes an unexpected turn towards a gathering associated with sexual liberties.
In the upcoming Season 2, actress Melissa Fumero from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will join the cast. She plays Drew, a recently-minted mom who becomes friends with Ava. It’s possible that Drew might harbor some secrets of her own.

According to Digital Spy’s four-star appraisal, Based on a True Story received kudos for its playful, lighthearted approach towards serious themes.
The show sometimes satirizes the true-crime trend and the business of capitalizing on misfortune for entertainment, yet it maintains a lighthearted tone, thus making its outlandish plot plausible.
The second season of “Based on a True Story” premieres in the United States on Peacock on November 21st. In the UK, it can be seen on Sky and NOW.
