Qimir and Yoda share a surprising similarity
As a seasoned fan with a knapsack full of galaxy-roaming experiences under my belt, I must say that the characters of Luke Skywalker and Qimir from “The Acolyte” share striking similarities, yet they are as different as the light side and the dark.
At first, Luke Skywalker doubts that the enigmatic being he encounters on Dagobah could possibly be the Jedi master Yoda. Yet, in “The Empire Strikes Back,” it is eventually unveiled that Yoda is indeed who he claims to be, and he sets Luke on a journey that leads to his destiny and training as a true Jedi.
In the show “The Acolyte,” the character Qimir initially appears as a formerly shy smuggler with an awkward demeanor. During the early episodes, he aids Mae in her quest to eliminate Jedi who had wronged her on Brendok.
In the episode titled “Night,” it’s unveiled that he is The Stranger, a Sith wielder of the dark side powers. He subsequently guides Osha and Mae away from righteousness towards darkness and malice, thereby paving the way for the galaxy’s future devastation.
Initially, Qimir and Yoda appear to be ordinary, unassuming characters with little wisdom or power. They seem more like bungling individuals than the important figures they later prove to be in their respective stories. Only Luke, Osha, Mae, and The High Republic Jedi come to understand their mistake as these seemingly insignificant characters become crucial players in their journeys.
Both Qimir and Yoda put on a display of innocence but show their true colors to their eventual apprentices.
In contrast, there is a significant gap between a Jedi Master and a Sith. Yoda unveils himself to Luke because Luke fails to perceive Yoda’s true identity within his hut. This oversight on Luke’s part prompts Yoda to disclose his true self and initiate a training process tailored to Luke’s specific needs.
Option: Qimir was compelled to unveil himself to the twins and the Jedi, not out of desire, but due to finding himself in a tight spot. He found it necessary to confront the Jedi, unlike Yoda. Yoda’s decision to disclose himself to Luke was triggered by the chain of events that Qimir instigated, as he trained Osha and Mae, and had ties to Darth Plagueis, who would later become Palpatine’s master.
Yoda swiftly improves Luke as an individual and a Jedi, whereas Qimir negatively influences Osha. Nevertheless, eventually, both Luke and Rey, under Yoda’s tutelage, discover a means to vanquish the Sith.
