In his autobiography, “Sonny Boy,” he stated that he isn’t the type to enact explicit love scenes. He also believes that not many other actors enjoy doing such scenes. It often feels a bit like borderline pornography.

In a subsequent discussion, Pacino elaborated on how his character in the movie “Sea of Love” differed from the passionate roles he had previously portrayed.

Despite having portrayed romantic roles in other films, [he] mentioned that “[Sea of Love]” was particularly known for an extended, sensual love scene involving Ellen Barkin. According to Harold Becker’s direction, Pacino admired the skillfully arranged scene. Yet, he nostalgically recalled the tender romances prevalent in classic films, believing that such heartfelt emotions are “hard to find” nowadays.

He stated, “I acknowledge that nowadays, it’s pointless for me to lament about the fact that we’re no longer living in a time similar to when films like A Place in the Sun were made, where Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift could captivate an entire audience with just their on-screen presence, without any need to reveal their bodies.
