NASCAR team unexpectedly absent from Las Vegas entry list

As a dedicated NASCAR enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I must admit, the unpredictable nature of MBM Motorsports this season has kept me on my toes! From their sporadic appearances to their unexpected withdrawals and comebacks, it’s like watching a rollercoaster ride through the NASCAR Cup Series.

MBM Motorsports participated in a handful of events during the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, having taken a break in the entirety of the previous year. However, their participation seems to have been rather intermittent.

So far this season, they’ve entered the No. 66 Ford in ten points races. Initially, they intended to participate in additional races, but that didn’t happen. A notable instance was at Iowa Speedway, where they were initially listed as competitors, but ultimately decided not to race.

Additionally, they’ve popped up in some unanticipated locations, like Richmond Raceway in August and Darlington Raceway just recently.

The team aimed to participate in five races scheduled for specific dates: Bristol Motor Speedway on September 21 (Saturday), Kansas Speedway on September 29 (Sunday), Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval on October 13 (Sunday), Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 20 (Sunday), and Phoenix Raceway on November 10 (Sunday).

At Bristol and the Charlotte Roval, the racing team owned by Carl Long participated, with Josh Bilicki driving the No. 66 Ford on each occasion. However, unfortunately, they were unable to compete in the race at Kansas.

Now they are set to miss the race at Las Vegas as well.

For this Sunday’s South Point 400 at the 1.5-mile track, there will be just one uncertified vehicle on the roster, and that’s not car number 66. Instead, Legacy Motor Club is preparing to race car number 84 with team co-owner Jimmie Johnson for the eighth time this year.

MBM Motorsports is planning a somewhat unexpected comeback at the Homestead-Miami Speedway the following weekend.

Chad Finchum, who raced for the first time this year at Nashville Superspeedway in June, will be behind the wheel of the No. 66 Ford in that event. His main sponsor for the race will be Aires Tech.

It remains uncertain if MBM Motorsports will actually participate in the final race at Phoenix this season.

This year, I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of the crew rotating behind the wheel of the No. 66 Ford. Among us, I’m the one who’s started the most races, with a total of three under my belt so far. Right on my heels are Timmy Hill and B.J. McLeod, each having taken the helm twice. The remaining drivers in our team this year are Finchum, David Starr, and Parker Retzlaff, who’ve all had one chance to drive the Ford, making their starts in 2024.

Tune into NBC this coming Sunday, October 20th, starting at 2:30 p.m. ET for the South Point 400 live broadcast. Why not sign up for a free trial with FuboTV to catch all the excitement from Las Vegas Motor Speedway without missing a beat!
