As a devoted fan of crime dramas and a connoisseur of British television, I am absolutely ecstatic about the upcoming adaptation of Elizabeth George’s Lynley series! Having grown up with the intricate mysteries woven by this prolific author, I can hardly contain my excitement to see these characters come to life on our screens once more.
In the upcoming, contemporary reinterpretation titled “Lynley,” renowned actor Daniel Mays, known for his role in “Line of Duty,” will take on a new character, as this series is based on the widely popular crime novel sequence by author Elizabeth George.
Airing on BBC One, this four-part drama chronicles the adventures of DI Tommy Lynley, a highly intelligent detective who happens to be an Earl of Asherton and a university graduate from Oxford. Being an aristocrat sets him apart in the police force, but he teams up with DS Barbara Havers, a street-smart detective hailing from a working-class family, to solve complex cases together.
An unusual team consisting of Leo Suter from “Vikings” and Sofia Barclay known for her role in “Ted Lasso”, are set to collaborate, working together to unravel mysteries for the Three Counties Major Crime Unit.
In this depiction, Mays plays DCI Brian Nies, who dislikes Lynley not only because of their differing social backgrounds but also due to a sense of being challenged by the newcomer’s intelligence.
The ensemble is completed with Niamh Walsh portraying Helen Clyde, a real estate agent who was once a classmate and eventual love interest of Lynley, Michael Workeye stepping into the role of tech expert Tony Bekele, and Joshua Sher taking on the character of forensic scientist Simon St James.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement over the return of characters Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers on TV screens once more! The collaboration between the BBC and BritBox, along with the masterful production skills of Playground, is truly something to look forward to, as novelist Elizabeth George expressed in her statement.

22 books make up the Lynley series, starting with “A Great Deliverance,” which was initially published in 1988.
It’s not the initial BBC rendition of George’s stories; rather, “Inspector Lynley Mysteries” had previously been broadcasted on BBC One from 2001 to 2008, starring Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small as Lynley and Havers respectively.
The show named Lynley will soon be broadcasted on BBC One, and viewers can also stream it on BBC iPlayer. However, the official release date is still undisclosed.
