As a seasoned observer of public figures and their lives, I must say that the story of Gregg Wallace is quite intriguing. On one hand, he seems to be a man who deeply cares for his family, particularly his autistic son Sid, which shows a compassionate side to his personality. On the other hand, there have been allegations about his behavior towards women, which if proven true, would cast a shadow over his reputation.
This week, there were criticisms directed towards Gregg Wallace due to some humor considered inappropriate on the popular BBC series MasterChef that he hosts.
In 2018, Wallace, aged 59, was summoned to a meeting by the company executives due to claims of inappropriate sexual remarks. They advised him to modify his behavior, yet suggestive language has been a consistent feature of the MasterChef franchise for over twenty years.
Over the past two decades, my co-critic Wallace and John Torode, aged 59, have had their fair share of bold opinions, and these outbursts have become quite notorious across our 20 series. Recently, some of these heated moments are resurfacing amidst the current allegations – allegations that Gregg firmly refutes. As a lifestyle expert, I believe it’s important to address such discussions openly and honestly.
On Tuesday, Torode found himself in a bit of trouble when he jokingly referred to his “little sausage” during a cooking segment on This Morning with Cat Deeley. He was preparing toad in the hole at the time.
Whilst the innuendos are now coming up for debate, Wallace and Torode’s outlandish brand have helped the BBC show set itself apart from the sea of cookery shows on TV.
During a 2016 episode of MasterChef: The Professionals, an intriguing comment was made by Wallace when he said to one competitor: “It seems like it lacks the sauce that would tie everything together. I’m longing to immerse that pork in something moist!
Meanwhile, in 2012, Torode playfully posed a question to a fellow contestant by asking whether she considered her cooking style as “traditional” or “innovative.
The contestant declared, ‘At home, I’m quite adventurous with my spouse,’ to which Torode humorously replied, ‘I’m not inquiring about your activities at home.’
In 2015, while sampling a dessert made by a female contestant, Wallace exclaimed, “I’d love to strip down and swim in it!
Wallace’s remarks haven’t been restricted to the primary show. In a 2011 episode of Celebrity Masterchef, he advised actress Margi Clarke, “This requires more moisture. It’s similar to a diamond ring in an unopened bag!
2023 saw viewers taken aback once more by a hint from Wallace, leading to the elimination of contestant Diya Kotecha-Lodhia.
The judges were left ‘underwhelmed’ by her starter and said that her main dish ‘didn’t quite work’.
However, it was an unintentional double entendre from Gregg that had home viewers laughing out loud. His comment about the starter – “I found those balls really quite salty” – was open to multiple interpretations.
In her comments this week, Lisa Faulkner, the wife of chef Torode, has disclosed that while she was a contestant on the show, she often found herself thinking, “I’d rather not listen” when Wallace cracked jokes directed at the crew members.
52-year-old Faulkner, who triumphed in the Celebrity MasterChef competition in 2010, recently shared insights about her experience on the series.

However, this week, John found himself embroiled in another humorous predicament. During a live cooking segment on “This Morning,” he prepared a dish called “toad in the hole.” The outcome left co-host Cat Deeley with an expression of discomfort.
John joked: ‘I never thought I’d say to Cat Deeley, ‘Here’s a little sausage for you darling’.”
47-year-old cat patted him on the shoulder and said, “I appreciate that, thanks,” before giving a sly look to the camera.
In the midst of a distressing scandal involving my colleague on air, I found myself under scrutiny when some viewers on social media highlighted the unfortunate timing of a comment I made, which they felt was insensitive or ill-timed.
The social media user posted: “Why is John Torode’s co-host, who has no hair, facing criticism for using suggestive comments, as he did today on ITV alongside Cat Deeley?

This week, it’s been reported that accusations about inappropriate remarks are surfacing, coinciding with the BBC initiating an investigation into their workplace environment. The management is taking steps to address and eliminate any misuse of power.
The insider who made the claims against Wallace, which his team says are ‘inaccurate’, raised questions as to why he was allowed to continue presenting MasterChef.
They informed the Sun that he was reportedly bragging about his intimate relationship with his companion during that period.
At some stage, there were allegations that Wallace exposed himself in the presence of a woman, an action that was perceived as uncomfortable or improper.
The team responsible for the show reportedly approached BBC superiors to voice their concerns following an incident where they felt deeply embarrassed by Wallace’s rumored actions.
I, Gregg, firmly refute the allegations suggesting I made boasts about my personal life to a younger BBC colleague, as well as any claims that I exposed myself during the filming of a game show. To set the record straight, I would never engage in flirting or making advances towards another woman.
A representative from the BBC stated to The Sun that they don’t discuss specific individuals, but when concerns arise, they handle them promptly and properly as they come up.
‘We do not tolerate any form of inappropriate behaviour and have robust processes in place.’
Previously, The Times claimed in May of the previous year that there were accusations he made inappropriate remarks about women’s weights to staff at a Nestlé UK factory in York, during what was said to be a casual exchange.
Later on, Wallace asserted that he didn’t step down from the Inside The Factory program at the BBC in March of that particular year because of any inappropriate remarks directed toward female team members.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain in August 2023, the called the claims ‘inaccurate’.
According to the report, the source stated that he exhibited disrespectful behavior towards employees, often using demeaning language, particularly towards women.
It appears that the remarks were not of a sexual nature, but they were considered inappropriate nonetheless. As a result, a grievance was filed with Voltage TV, the organization behind the program’s creation.
When asked on GMB by Richard Madeley about his departure from the programme, Wallace responded by saying: ‘There was an argument inside the factory, the reporting isn’t accurate.
‘There was an issue and I thought this is the perfect time to come out.’
“You won’t find a corresponding story in the headlines that suggest I have offended anyone.
Besides sharing his departure plans, Gregg mentioned that he wished to step down to focus on caring for his son Sid, diagnosed with autism in 2019.
In simpler terms, he shared that he has a son named Sid, who currently can’t speak and wears diapers due to learning challenges. His mother requires assistance with his care.
As a lifestyle expert, I found myself faced with a challenging reality while filming across various factories nationwide – the relentless pace left me with no other option but to reconsider my commitment.
Wallace stated: “What the papers reported isn’t accurate at all. I didn’t dispute it, but there was indeed a matter that occurred, though not as portrayed in the media.
There wasn’t anything disrespectful or hurtful; it was merely speculation. It seemed like an appropriate moment for the revelation, in my opinion.
In the summer of 2016, Wallace got married to Anne-Marie Sterpini, who is 22 years his junior, at Hever Castle in Kent. They first crossed paths three years prior to their wedding.
