Former Superman Actor Repeats Classic Christopher Reeve Scene In 2026 Superhero Return

As a huge movie fan, I noticed something really cool! A classic scene with Christopher Reeve as Superman just popped up in a brand new superhero film – and it was referenced by an actor who also played Superman! It’s amazing how often we revisit the story of Clark Kent. He really is the standard for superheroes, isn’t he? New franchises keep drawing inspiration from him, and he shows up in movies and on TV all the time.

Over the last twenty years, Tom Welling (in Smallville) and Tyler Hoechlin (in the Arrowverse shows and Superman & Lois) are the most well-known live-action Supermen on television. In movies, many actors have played their own unique versions of Superman, with David Corenswet being the newest to take on the role in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Henry Cavill previously played Superman in the DC Extended Universe, but Christopher Reeve is still considered the most iconic portrayal of the character. Reeve starred in many of Superman’s most famous live-action scenes, and recently, another actor who played Superman recreated one of those scenes in a different superhero film.

Nicolas Cage plays the lead role in the Prime Video series Spider-Noir. The show features a darker take on Spider-Man, with Cage portraying a world-weary version of the hero during the Great Depression in New York City. It’s a tough, realistic detective story about a character known as The Spider, rather than Spider-Man, though it still has some connections to the broader superhero genre – reminiscent of Christopher Reeve’s performance as Superman.

Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir And Christopher Reeve’s Superman Have Something In Common

Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the first season of Spider-Noir. The show, while based on a Marvel character, includes a scene that references a famous moment from Superman II, specifically one made iconic by Christopher Reeve. In that scene, Margot Kidder’s Lois Lane suspects Clark Kent is actually Superman. To test her theory, she jumps from a window at the Daily Planet, expecting him to fly and save her. However, instead of revealing his secret identity, Clark rushes outside and catches her using a combination of heat vision and super-breath. Reeve’s Superman then returns inside, with Clark watching Lois from the window, effectively ruining her attempt to unmask him.

The Prime Video series Spider-Noir features a scene reminiscent of a moment from Superman II. In Spider-Noir, Cat Hardy (played by Li Jun Li), the Black Cat character, jumps from a window to test if Ben Reilly (Luke Cage) is truly Spider-Man. However, unlike Superman, Ben doesn’t have super speed, so he uses his webs to catch her. This act convinces Cat that Ben is a hero, and they share a kiss. The way Spider-Noir reimagines the scene feels appropriate, considering the different abilities and personalities of its characters.

Nicolas Cage Also Connects To Christopher Reeve In Another Major Way

Like Christopher Reeve, Nicolas Cage is one of the actors who has portrayed Superman in a live-action film. Although he was cast to star in a Superman movie called Superman Lives, the project was ultimately canceled after a difficult development process. Years later, in 2023, Cage finally got to play Superman in a brief appearance in the movie The Flash, which featured a multiverse storyline inspired by the Flashpoint comic book event. In The Flash, Cage’s Superman even got to have the fight with the giant spider that was planned for his original, unreleased film.

The Superman from that film showed up in a scene featuring multiple universes and heroes. This included a digitally created version of Christopher Reeve’s Superman, who ultimately stood alongside Helen Slater’s Supergirl. This meant both Nicolas Cage and Reeve played Superman, with Cage even recreating a famous moment from Superman II within the Spider-Noir sequence, and their versions of the character actually appeared together on screen.
