The top 5 new must-read comic books of the week

As a seasoned gamer of comics spanning over two decades, I must say this week has been nothing short of a visual feast for my eyes and a symphony for my soul. The bar has been set incredibly high with the releases of David Pepose’s Space Ghost No. 6 and Matthew Rosenberg’s DC vs Vampires: World War V. However, it’s not all sunshine and roses in this world of capes and cowls; some comics simply don’t make the cut.

This week, every fresh comic book I read was flawless. David Pepose’s Space Ghost No. 6 advanced our heroes’ storyline while preserving the thrilling action that fans adore. In Matthew Rosenberg’s DC vs Vampires: World War V, the story concluded with a nail-biting cliffhanger and hinted at the identity of the miracle vampire baby’s potential mother.

Unfortunately, due to the exceptional quality of this week’s comics, it wasn’t possible for all of them to secure a spot in the Top 5. Let me share the ones that did, beginning with the top pick.

Exceptional X-Men No. 2

Kitty Pryde finds herself repeatedly aiding mutants, a role she’s not particularly fond of, but feels compelled to fulfill given their urgent circumstances. In the comic series Exceptional X-Men Issue 2, she encounters two young mutants in distress during a date. This incident paves the way for these youngsters to appoint Kitty as their guide. However, it seems another individual has already stepped up to teach them, leaving Kitty with an unforeseen mentorship task.

2021 has undeniably been a standout year for the X-Women, and it’s been nothing short of exhilarating as a fan! The powerhouses such as Storm, Rogue in Uncanny X-Men, Kamala Khan in NYX, and Stephanie Phillips’ Jean Grey have truly raised the bar. Kitty Pryde’s Exceptional X-Men is equally captivating, and I find myself drawn to each issue. The talented Eve Ewing has taken the reins, making her the ideal choice to guide these iconic characters, and I eagerly anticipate what’s next!

Ultimates No. 5

In my gaming world, diving into the Ultimate Universe means stepping away from the familiarity of Earth-616. Writer Deniz Camp has nailed this distinction, crafting a tale where even our beloved Hawkeye breaks free from traditional norms, embracing a non-binary, Indigenous identity.

The most captivating aspect lies in the fact that the narrative spotlights genuine Indigenous individuals (Oglala Lakota), basing their depiction on thorough research prior to the creation of Ultimate Hawkeye. This ensures an accurate portrayal, and it’s worth noting that they possess the abilities to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Captain America. Therefore, you won’t want to miss out on Hawkeye, as he promises to be a compelling character.

Fantastic Four No. 26

In this particular edition of “Fantastic Four,” it’s proposed for transformation into an animated mini-series. When the rest of the family is out trick-or-treating in New York (thanks to Reed’s teleportation abilities), Johnny Storm and Reed Richards find themselves alone. Upon discovering a mysterious occurrence in their basement, Johnny manages to persuade Reed, despite his better judgment, to investigate. It seems that Johnny’s excitement ignites Reed’s curiosity, leading them to encounter ghost dinosaurs, a massive hole in their home, and an ever-bleeding skull.

This is easily the most fun comic book issue of the year.

Scarlett No. 5

For quite some time now, there hasn’t been a spy comic book as remarkable as the one titled “Scarlett“. Reading each issue only intensifies my eagerness for the next installment. As you might expect, everything seems to be falling into place for Scarlett, but as she delves deeper, things seem to spiral out of control.

I’m eagerly anticipating the final chapter, even though I hate to see this story conclude. Will Scarlett and her dear companion Jinx manage to survive their ordeal? Is it possible that Jinx has been secretly working for the opposition? If that’s the case, what steps will Scarlett take next?

Transformers No. 13

In Transformers comic #7, it was believed that Starscream had perished during his battle for leadership against Soundwave. To everyone’s surprise, however, he miraculously endured the severe beating and plunge from the precipice. Yet, he’s currently in a weakened state.

As Starscream lay on his deathbed, his thoughts drifted back to the events that transformed him into a Decepticon. Not only does this narrative unfold, but you’ll also discover the reason behind his name and his former benevolent nature. I won’t reveal it here; you’ll have to read the comic yourself.
