As I delve deeper into the world of music photography, I find myself continually amazed by the stories and experiences that unfold before my lens. The creative relationship between Sharon and Noel Gallagher is a shining example of this.

Known for her exceptional photography skills, she has collaborated with major industry figures such as Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, and The Rolling Stones.

However, for Sharon Latham, who is a fan of snapper, her relationship with Noel Gallagher stands out as one of the most memorable – having shared numerous years traveling around the globe with him and his band, High Flying Birds.

At the debut of her exhibition “A New World Blazing,” exclusively discussing with TopMob, Sharon opened up about her unique encounter with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. She disclosed that their friendship ignited over their mutual passion for football.

Sharon served as the Senior Photographer at Manchester City Football Club, frequently encountering fervent supporters Noel and his sibling Liam in her duties.

When her 10-year stint at the club concluded, she disclosed that Noel inquired about her future plans, but instead, Sharon joined him on a tour.

According to Sharon, she had casually remarked, “I’ll tag along on your tour,” to which he responded, “Sure,” but it turned out to be an off-the-cuff comment!

Yet the position stuck and Sharon found herself going on tour with the band. 

Later on, Sharon discovered that Noel was prone to acting on impulse, as evident when he spontaneously recruited bassist Russell Pritchard for his band following an unexpected phone call from Russ asking if he needed a bass player.

His relaxed demeanor is genuine, as Sharon put it: ‘He’s incredibly laid-back and easygoing, without a hint of pretense or arrogance. He’s just naturally cool.’

As a devoted admirer, I’d put it this way: ‘I’m referring to an ordinary individual, much like sharing a meal with Noel Gallagher isn’t about rubbing shoulders with a legendary rock star, but rather enjoying some laughter, a couple of beers, and good food together.’

It was mentioned that Noel, too, is exceptionally generous. She reminded everyone about the instance when they were touring Australia with U2, and Noel graciously provided her with a campervan, allowing her to venture around the beautiful Australian countryside.

Speaking as a lifestyle enthusiast, let me share an experience: Some of the destinations in Australia I visited left me utterly spellbound. When I mentioned my reluctance to travel by air due to the distances involved – say, from Sydney to Melbourne – my companion was taken aback. After all, the performances we attended were located in distant locales.

However, when I declined his offer for joint travel plans, I instead opted for a campervan adventure. Consequently, he arranged a campervan rental for me, and I journeyed across the vast landscapes of Australia.

For years, Sharon has shared a workspace with Noel, but she always takes care to respect boundaries and knows when it’s best to let him work alone.

She shared that there weren’t too many instances, but one that stood out was when he performed an impromptu acoustic soundcheck – a task I usually handled. However, unexpectedly, he stepped onto the stage ahead of schedule and started singing spontaneously.

In response to his gaze, I assumed, “It seems he’s not interested in me; probably engrossed in a melody or task. So, I decided to step away.

‘It’s because I know him now. I get it.’

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d like to share that I always pour my heart into each performance for my dear fans. Every time I step onto the stage, it’s fueled by an unyielding passion.

Sharon remembered an unusual festival in Denmark, set amidst the desolate landscape, where she performed once. This event seemed more like a circus than a typical festival, taking place under the large canvas of a circus tent.

She pondered, “He appeared onstage as if he were performing at Glastonbury! With his sunglasses on in the dark, it’s a wonder what he could even see!

Sharon has also worked photographing Oasis gigs and is excited to see the band’s reunion tour. 

She mused: ‘The whole world is excited about it! 

Whenever I perform with The High Flying Birds, I often find it peculiar due to the fact that I observe the audience during his singing, and there are teenagers aged 15 and 16 who are returning songs from the ’90s back at him.

I can’t help but marvel at this! It seems that yet another generation is getting introduced to his brilliance, thanks to their parents listening to him. Isn’t it simply mind-blowing how the influence of a great artist continues across generations?

It seems appropriate to find the right moment and setting for everything, doesn’t it? Life and culture often present us with such opportunities. The upcoming reunion tour is set to be another memorable experience for that particular generation.

Despite numerous Oasis fans losing faith that the feuding brothers would ever reunite again, Sharon shares a familiar feeling about overcoming long-shot possibilities.

As a young child, she discovered a passion for cameras, often accompanying her photography-loving father until his passing at the age of eight.

Sharon said, ‘His death left me with just one bond, and it was the one thing I truly cherished. I wasn’t exceptional at it, but I cared for it deeply.’

Life took an unexpected turn for me. I found myself raising three wonderful kids and embarking on marriage at a young age, 18 to be exact. My passion for photography lingered, but finding a way to make it a viable career while managing family life proved challenging. It seemed like pursuing my dream of becoming a professional photographer was nothing more than a distant dream, a pie in the sky, so to speak.

Reflecting on my personal journey, my former pastime evolved into an all-consuming passion that brought me immense joy. Following the events of my second marriage’s conclusion, as my children grew older and became more independent, I found myself pondering the purpose of my remaining years. It was then that I realized, with a newfound clarity, that this very pursuit was the direction I wished to steer my life towards.

Instead of pursuing just one passion, I decided to immerse myself fully in both music and photography. Consequently, I gathered my belongings and moved to Liverpool to focus on these passions.

In Liverpool, she eventually found herself connected with a non-professional football club and gradually made a name for herself as a sports photographer.

Unfortunately, misfortune came her way as she found herself involved in a severe auto accident, fracturing her spine and resulting in temporary loss of mobility.

‘I spent a year completely depressed in hospital,’ she explained. ‘It was horrendous.

Essentially, I recovered from my illness, yet I’ve given up on photography due to lack of self-confidence. I didn’t believe I would handle a camera again.

Initially, a friend inspired her to rekindle her passion for photography. Later, when she provided her services at a festival, she unexpectedly crossed paths with the Chief Communications Manager at Manchester City Football Club, who ultimately extended a job offer to her at the club. This opportunity eventually led to her encounter with Noel.

Sharon developed a creative bond with Noel that sparked her latest display, “A New World Blazing.” This showcase captures live performances alongside exclusive and personal insights from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds backstage.

Regarding the exhibit, Noel mentioned: “What do the photos convey? They depict: As NGHFB, we have the most fantastic occupation imaginable. It’s a joy to labor, frolic, traverse, and celebrate alongside these individuals. Truly a delight!

I’m overjoyed that Big Shaz was present for these special moments. Over time, I’ve had the fortune of collaborating with top-notch photographers globally, and Sharon is definitely one of the best among them.

You can check out “A New World Blazing” exhibit at Gibson Garage London over the next six months. The gallery operates from Monday through Saturday, 10am to 7pm, and on Sundays, it’s open from 12pm to 6pm.
