Apparently Disney’s new Daredevil show will be “as problematic and scary” as Game of Thrones
As a die-hard fan of Marvel and someone who has spent countless hours binge-watching shows from the MCU, I can confidently say that the revival of Daredevil on Disney+ is both exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. The original series on Netflix was gritty, violent, and dark – a stark contrast to the family-friendly image that Disney usually projects. But the teaser from Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum about New York City being as intricate and problematic as Game of Thrones has me hopeful that we might see the same level of complexity in the new series.
Born Again”, with Charlie Cox reprising his role as the blind superhero attorney.
Will the resurrected Daredevil series, picking up from where the Netflix version ended, live up to its former intensity or will Disney tone things down due to having more direct control? According to Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum, we should put aside our concerns. “Think of New York City as complex and challenging as the world of Game of Thrones,” he hinted to ABC. “With various forces competing for power, it can be both hopeful and violent at times, dark yet with a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel if one fights for it.
The TV series “Game of Thrones” on HBO was notorious for its intense and unforeseeable violence, frequently eliminating major characters in gruesome fashion. This level of brutality wasn’t commonly seen even in the original “Daredevil” show. However, it’s unlikely that “Daredevil: Born Again” will equal “Game of Thrones” in terms of its ruthlessness, but I understand what Winderbaum is trying to convey.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but harbor some doubts about how Disney might soften the edge of the upcoming Daredevil series when it airs in March 2025. Given Disney’s track record of preserving a family-friendly image and carefully managing major franchises like Marvel, I can’t help but wonder if the gritty, darker aspects of Daredevil will be diluted once more. Even in previous appearances of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil within the MCU, we’ve seen a softer side to the character, such as when he emerged as Jennifer Walters’ love interest in She-Hulk.
How do you imagine the viewing experience of “Daredevil: Born Again” will be once it’s released? It’s a question yet to be fully answered, but one we won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
