Maxine Peake confirmed to lead Norfolk-set drama based on “amazing” story

Maxine Peake will star in the new drama, The Bright Side Running Club, set in Norfolk, with Gemma Jones also featuring in a leading role. The film is based on Josie Lloyd’s 2023 novel, The Cancer Ladies’ Running Club, which Lloyd has also adapted into the screenplay. Sheree Folkson is directing.

The movie centers around a vibrant woman who seems to have it all – a thriving career, a full social calendar, and a loving family. But her seemingly perfect life is turned upside down when she receives a breast cancer diagnosis.

When her life began to fall apart, she discovered a passion for running after connecting with a women’s running club for those undergoing treatment (according to Screen Daily).

Production for the new film will start in Norfolk later this year. Christelle Conan will be the executive producer, and Liza Carmel will co-produce.

In a review, Magic Radio called the book a truly inspiring story, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of friendship.
