Outer Banks season 4 episode 5 definitely leaves you wanting more, in a good way! (Review)

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating treacherous virtual seas and battling formidable foes, I can confidently say that Outer Banks season 4 episode 5 is a game-changer. This episode had me on the edge of my seat, heart pounding like John B’s when he’s trying to outrun Lightner.

As a dedicated gamer diving into the thrilling world of “Outer Banks,” I can’t help but share my thoughts on the nail-biting events of season 4, episode 5 – “Albatross.” Following the jaw-dropping cliffhanger in episode 4, this installment finally sheds light on what unfolds when Shoupe appears, and a chilling sight greets the Pogues: Terrance’s lifeless body sprawled across their living room. Needless to say, things are looking grim for our beloved crew. Here’s my take on the latest episode of this gripping Netflix series, so beware of potential spoilers ahead!

So, Shoupe arrives at Poguelandia 2.0 seeking out JJ following an upsetting video of him threatening the Kooks’ family at the beach. The Kooks’ parents are using this as a pretext to target the Pogues, which is disrespectful. However, there’s a complication – Terrance’s body remains on the premises, forcing them to conceal it behind a couch during Shoupe and JJ’s conversation. Wow, what an intense moment for both parties and viewers alike!

Shoupe seems oblivious to the strong bleach odor in their current situation, which might not have been the wisest move. Time constraints left them with limited options, though. Having Terrance’s body there could have raised suspicions. Given that Shoupe and Kildare lean towards their friends already, I can understand the reasoning. However, Shoupe understands JJ is hiding something about where he was on the night Wes Genrette died, so a deputy has been assigned to keep an eye on them.

Terrence is given an honorable sea burial, which has left me deeply mournful. Poor Cleo isn’t doing well either, and it’s understandable given the circumstances. I find myself wishing I could comfort her with a hug. Despite her threats of revenge, she may have the opportunity to act on them as she travels to Charleston with her companions, before Lightner and his crew arrive. With JJ vanishing after receiving a cryptic message and Kie opting to stay put and await him, everyone else embarks on the treasure hunt in Charleston!

In passing, I found myself charmed by John B, similar to Sarah, when he imagined the couple buying a house and a pet after this ordeal, with hopes they’d regain their wealth once more. However, when he brought up kids and mentioned the biological clock, it took me aback. John B, she’s only 19! You’ve got lots of time ahead. This scene was both heartwarming and amusing due to that moment. I’m simply glad to see them happy and settled in a more secure phase of their relationship.

The climactic moments in the episode unfold as Pope and Sarah find themselves trapped under ground, with water rising and no escape route. Similarly, Sarah’s encounter with numerous rats was quite unpleasant (to put it mildly). Meanwhile, Lightner and the Captain discover something resembling a scroll, fortunately without finding Sarah and Pope. John B grapples with PTSD, which prevents him from shooting Lightner even as they catch up to them. The police persistently pursue JJ and Luke. Lastly, the most significant revelation is unveiled – JJ’s true parentage!

As it transpires, Luke isn’t JJ’s biological father. Instead, Charles and Larissa Genrette are his true parents, and the ship where Larissa perished was named The Albatross – hence the episode’s title. I had a feeling something like this would happen when JJ received that letter from Wes. There was also a reference to a baby during their encounter with Wes earlier, which hinted at the plot development. Despite being predictable, it was an impressive twist! It seems the family placed JJ for adoption to shield him from the curse and Elizabeth’s spirit. Can you imagine JJ growing up as a Kook? What a twist of fate!

Charles is collaborating with Hollis for some unknown purpose, and I get a suspicious feeling from them both – they’re definitely plotting something underhanded. Meanwhile, Rafe is striving to emulate Ward Cameron by appearing to assist the Pogues, mend fences with his sister, reunite the family, and surprisingly shows genuine concern for Sofia. So, what repercussions might arise since he’s partnered up with Hollis?

In the fifth episode of season 4 in Outer Banks, we are left guessing due to its suspenseful cliffhanger! We wonder why Charles and Hollis are collaborating, what their plans involve, how the Genrettes discovered JJ is a relative, if Charles truly cares for his son, whether Pope and Sarah will escape safely, and what secret information Lightner and the Captain found on that scroll. I can’t wait for part 2 to find out more! This episode was filled with fascinating revelations and unexpected turns, keeping me glued to my seat, and now craving even more. Grade Level: A.

The second part of “Outer Banks” Season 4 will be released on Netflix on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Don’t forget to catch up on the reviews for the first part of Season 4 before then!
