As a seasoned gamer of both television and life, I must say that the return of Accused was a welcome comeback indeed! The season 2 premiere was a rollercoaster ride that had me on the edge of my seat. Felicity Huffman’s portrayal of Lorraine, the psychic medium, was captivating and left me questioning her authenticity at every turn.

After taking a TV season off, Accused is back. The season 2 premiere did not disappoint.

In the season 2 premiere of “The Accused,” Felicity Huffman portrayed Lorraine, a character who was the central figure in the story. From the plot summary, we understood that Lorraine was a psychic medium assisting parents in contacting their son. It wasn’t long before it became clear that these parents had lost a son, and Lorraine communicated information suggesting that he was still alive.

It became apparent within a short span of time that the mother wasn’t convinced about her psychic abilities. The father, on the other hand, remained optimistic. However, the situation changed drastically when someone admitted to killing the child.

It wasn’t just fraud, though. The district attorney wasn’t to prosecute her for wasting police time, though. It would need witness testimony, but when Lorraine wouldn’t take the money to tell Frank she had lied, Melissa decided to be the witness needed and the trial went ahead.

We’ve been granted insights into Lorraine’s past, and it’s evident that she showed genuine abilities as a psychic medium. Interestingly, “Accused” has allowed us to peer deeply into the characters’ backstories in their narrative. If Lorraine was a fraudulent medium, we should have noticed indications of that by now.

17 years ago, we learned that Lorraine successfully located a missing child. She emphasized that her visions come in fragments, requiring time to assemble the necessary details for assistance. In total, there were six cases she took on, four of which she mentioned had their connection severed, leading to the discovery of the children’s deceased bodies.

The lead investigator on the missing case unequivocally stated that Lorraine was a fake. He had apprehended the man he thought had murdered their son. Yet, when footage from the suspect’s interrogation surfaced, it became evident that his confession was bogus.

In court, Lorraine narrated an account of her brother’s ordeal during the Vietnam War when he was initially believed deceased, but miraculously found alive as a prisoner of war, eventually returning home. She emphasized this tale due to its personal significance within her own family.

Ultimately, Lorraine’s attorney clarified that the focus wasn’t on determining if she was considered a fraud. Instead, it revolved around assessing whether she intentionally deceived the family.

In the end, they find her not guilty.

In the season premiere of “The Accused,” the storyline concluded with Frank handing over his son’s baseball cap to Lorraine. All along, he had faith in her honesty, nurturing a glimmer of hope that his son might still be found.

Ray stood by Lorraine throughout their ordeal, having witnessed it multiple times before. He recognized the toll it took on her and didn’t want her to experience it again. Unfortunately, she still did. But during those difficult moments, he was there for her, offering support. Isn’t that sweet?
