Gavin and Stacey finale has wrapped! BBC reveal filming for comedy's last ever episode has concluded amid speculation over THAT wedding

As a dedicated follower of Gavin and Stacey for over a decade now, I must say that my anticipation for this finale is higher than Smithy’s expectations when he proposed to Nessa! The thought of witnessing their long-awaited wedding has me as giddy as a schoolgirl with her first crush.

Filming for the final episode of Gavin and Stacey has been completed, eagerly awaited for its premiere on Christmas Day.

BBC shared that after five weeks of filming, work on the beloved comedy series concluded on Monday.

Posting a snapshot of the final scene’s clapperboard on Instagram, the message read: “It’s all wrapped up… for good this time. Catch you on Christmas Day!

The initial filming for the final episode of the series started on September 2, and ever since then, the cast has been spotted at various places, among them being the renowned Barry Island in Wales, which plays a significant role in the beloved comedy’s setting.

It seems that a significant development in the storyline is the potential focus on Nessa’s upcoming wedding, which might offer resolution to the suspenseful ending from the 2019 special episode.

Stars Ruth Jones and James Corden were said to be filming scenes for a wedding last month.

Nevertheless, it remains unconfirmed by the actors whether Smithy and Nessa will truly have a happy ending.

Just now, it was officially announced that the actors have wrapped up shooting sequences on iconic Trinity Street, a location featuring the residences of characters Stacey and Gavin, as well as her mother Gwen and uncle Bryn, in their series.

Ruth shared with fans, “Since we’ve been inside, you haven’t had a chance to see anything new. This indicates your unwavering dedication as fans of the show. We eagerly anticipate that you won’t be let down on Christmas Day, when all will finally be unveiled.

Here’s our goodbye to Barry and Trinity Street; you won’t find us around here again, as we’re moving on. However, we’ve enjoyed the past 17 years together, and they’ve been truly amazing!

James added: ‘Thank you very much to everyone, we’ll see you soon.’

Following the news about the leaked script portion, it became necessary for supervisors to enforce additional safety protocols in order to safeguard the secret Christmas special storyline.

The team responsible for the show has been shooting the final episode of the sitcom, which will be aired on Christmas Day, in Barry. This location attracted numerous spectators.

It’s been reported that bosses increased security following an incident where James (Smithy) was pictured with the script, revealing key plot points, during filming at a department store.

Following the incident, it’s reported that the producers advised the entire cast to exercise caution, particularly during filming, given that Barry attracts a large number of fans.

According to a source, there’s immense anticipation surrounding the comeback of characters like Gavin, Stacey, Smithy, and their friends. As a result, curiosity about the show is currently at its peak, The Sun reports.

Each day, crowds of enthusiasts are swarming to the movie sets in Cardiff and Barry Island to catch a glimpse of the actors filming and snap their own pictures and selfies.

‘It’s a challenge trying to keep key storylines under wraps but the cast have been reminded to be on alert.’

The BBC declined to comment when contacted by TopMob.

Fans of Gavin and Stacey were set abuzz recently, as they caught sight of the cast filming a wedding scene in preparation for the highly anticipated final episode last week.

Making a surprise return to the set was actor Steffan Rhodri – who plays Nessa’s ex-fiancé Dave Coaches – casting doubt on whether Smithy and Nessa will tie the knot after five years of speculation.

In the final episode of the third season, he bid farewell from Gavin and Stacey as Nessa ultimately chose not to proceed with their wedding.

His surprise return will no doubt spark worry from fans that Smithy declined Nessa’s proposal.

According to recent updates on Gavin and Stacey, it seems that Sheridan Smith, who plays Gavin’s sister Rudi, is set to make a reappearance in the finale. Photos show the actress filming an unexpected guest role.

The star played a larger-than-life character in series one and two of the hit show and was spotted filming their scenes last week.

According to a source, the actress seamlessly resumed her role as Rudy, making it seem as if no time had elapsed since she last portrayed the character.

The source stated: ‘Sheridan was thrilled to return, and her performances are outstanding.’

As a devoted fan, I’ve learned that the cast is producing a special backstage documentary to commemorate their last performance together.

The upcoming episode marks the first installment of the BBC comedy series since its Christmas special in 2019. In that episode, 12 million viewers were left hanging as Nessa got down on one knee to propose – but we’ll have to wait and see if she was accepted!

The series primarily focuses on the rollercoaster journey of Gavin and Stacey’s long-distance romance, as he resides with his family in Billericay, Essex, while she dwells in Barry Island.

In the end, they get married, and meanwhile, Smithy and Nessa’s closest companions welcome a child named Neil into the world. He’s currently 15 years old and is set to make an appearance in the ultimate farewell episode.

Gavin And Stacey’s final episode will air on BBC One on Christmas Day.
