It’s not every day you hear about a Hollywood heavyweight making such an epic blunder in the galaxy far, far away!

In a galaxy, far, far away, I found myself caught up in a mix-up – turns out, I wasn’t aware of the character I lent my voice to in Star Wars: The Force Awakens! During a look back at my career with Entertainment Weekly, I shared this amusing tale about being misidentified. As a creator of iconic films like Clerks and Mallrats, you wouldn’t think it could happen to me!

The story begins with J.J. Abrams, the director of “The Force Awakens”, giving Smith an opportunity to voice a stormtrooper. As Smith recounts, Abrams graciously allowed him to record lines for a stormtrooper. He presented Smith with several lines, saying, “I’m not sure which one you’ll be. Just say all ten of these.” However, it wasn’t until Smith watched the movie that he discovered which specific stormtrooper he would portray in the end.

When I first saw The Force Awakens, I confidently told everyone for a whole week that I was the stormtrooper who shouted ‘Traitor!’ at John Boyega’s character, Finn. I even went around saying ‘I’m traitor, bitch!’ but my friends quickly corrected me and said, ‘No way, you’re joking right?’

It turns out that the “Traitor!” line was actually voiced by sound editor David Acord. Smith’s voice does appear in the same scene, though, during the attack on Maz Kanata’s castle. He’s the stormtrooper who shouts, “We have incoming at 28.6! Move!” It’s not quite as iconic as “Traitor!” but hey, a stormtrooper line is still a stormtrooper line!

Looking back, it’s understandable why Smith felt bewildered. After all, portraying a stormtrooper in a “Star Wars” movie is quite an impressive feat – something many fans would be proud to boast about. However, as Smith discovered, it’s wise to verify the credits before asserting a role as your own. This little misunderstanding only adds another amusing episode to Smith’s collection of eccentric Hollywood tales.

Apart from his famous role as a stormtrooper, Smith boasts an impressive filmography that spans from the popular indie movie “Clerks” to cult classics like “Dogma” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”. His latest production, titled “The 4:30 Movie“, is now showing in cinemas.
