We can safely assume that Star Trek: Legacy is not a priority for CBS

As a die-hard Star Trek fan with decades of memories woven into this universe, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment at the prospect of “Star Trek: Legacy” never coming to fruition. The idea of exploring the future through Seven of Nine and Jack Crusher, alongside familiar faces like Sidney La Forge, had me excited for the next chapter in this epic saga.

Enthusiasts of Star Trek are eagerly awaiting another installment following Star Trek: Picard. A proposal was put forth by Terry Matalas, suggesting a fresh series focusing on Seven of Nine and Jack Crusher – Jean-Luc Picard’s biological son. This potential show could also include characters like Sydney La Forge, along with possibly other familiar faces from the Star Trek universe.

In summary, it’d be the next installment in Star Trek storytelling following Picard, and one of the rare series that continues to develop the narrative. Unlike Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds, which exist within the same universe but serve as spin-offs or parallel stories, this new show would carry the torch forward in the Star Trek saga.

As a devoted Trekkie, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming series, Sar Trek: Legacy, which promises to be a thrilling extension of our beloved universe, set far into the timeline beyond Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and subsequent seasons of Discovery. The idea is fresh and invigorating, sparking excitement among fans like me. However, it seems that this intriguing concept might not materialize, as suggested by George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS’s content, who hinted at Legacy being a low priority.

…We don’t want to offer up all these amazing premium drama series at once. We want to time it out appropriately. Luckily, we have this incredible partner in Alex Kurtzman, and we all work together to sort of manage long-range planning across many years, to figure out what’s the right cadence for dropping new Star Trek series….

Given that Star Trek recently released high-quality series in bulk, and given the business jargon about scheduling, it seems clear that the project Legacy is not currently a top focus for them, if it’s being considered at all.

The series picks up right where Star Trek: Picard previously ended, with Jack encountering Q. John de Lancie, who plays Q, is now 72 years old and no longer a young man. With the passing of time, each day becomes increasingly valuable, so it’s important to appreciate the moments we have left together.

If CBS genuinely wanted to launch Legacy successfully, they would have placed it alongside a series like Starfleet Academy, given that there is no scheduling conflict with Starfleet Academy. Moreover, the demand among viewers isn’t as strong for Starfleet Academy as it is for Legacy.

Undeniably, Legacy may not materialize as initially anticipated by the fanbase, and if it does, it’s probable that it will significantly deviate from its initial concept.
