As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I have always admired the resilience and determination displayed by Zoë Foster Blake in her personal and professional journey. In this latest interview, she opens up about her experiences selling and reacquiring Go-To Skincare, providing an insightful look into the rollercoaster ride that is entrepreneurship.
Zoë Foster Blake has revealed some inside details about why her skincare business got into trouble.
In a recent chat with Stellar Magazine, I found myself reflecting on the journey of my beauty brand, Go-To, as it transitioned from being sold, to being reacquired – a rollercoaster ride that has left me realizing the importance of staying organized and focused in this fast-paced world.
In the year 2021, the Australian beauty firm BWX acquired a significant share of Go-To for approximately $89 million. But in 2023, two years later, Zoë and her co-founder Paul Bates regained ownership of the company when BWX entered into administration, leading them to reclaim control once more.
‘I went through a really big thing when I sold half of my business,’ Zoë reflected.
In simpler terms, I found myself unexpectedly immersed in a realm of corporate transactions like mergers, acquisitions, and sales – an area I was unfamiliar with. I had to adapt and organize myself swiftly to navigate this new business landscape.
She shared that she learned an incredible amount due to the wise counsel of those around her, including lawyers, her chairperson, and team. Feeling a sense of obligation to pass on what I’ve gained, since I initially entered without any knowledge, she continued. Notably, this experience became a significant part of her upcoming book titled Things Will Calm Down Soon.
During the same conversation, Zoe shared that balancing a busy profession with family responsibilities sometimes negatively impacts her mental well-being.
In times of intense pressure, you often adopt a survivor mindset, with the hope that things will eventually ease up serving as motivation. However, many women I know find themselves in such situations regularly, and they accept it as part of their daily lives, stating “Things will settle down soon.” Unfortunately, that’s not always the case according to her statement.

Zoe added: ‘It seems like more people are recognizing terms like mental load, administrative burden, and feeling overwhelmed. Now, when I find myself reacting negatively, I realize, “I’m not being difficult, I’m simply overwhelmed.”‘
Whenever my pals hit me up, saying something like, “Is that another book? Aren’t you overwhelmed yet?” The truth is, I’m burning the midnight oil, and it doesn’t come without a price – my mental peace, quality time with loved ones, even my physical well-being. It’s a labor of love, but let me tell you, it ain’t easy!
The tasks I had to set aside in order to complete this project effectively were truly substantial.

Zoe recently revealed that she has taken a step back from sharing her family life online.
She shared with The Sydney Morning Herald that we value our privacy deeply, and we’re not particularly exciting or eventful. Essentially, we’re an ordinary family, and over time, our desire to disclose our personal life has significantly decreased.
Regardless of their growing preference for privacy, Zoe and Hamish continue to share joyful photos from family vacations, carefully concealing Sonny and Rudy’s images.
Zoe continued by expressing that learning how to bring up children isn’t without its challenges, but she and Hamish, aged 42, are figuring out how to overcome these hurdles together.
As a passionate parent, I devour countless resources about child-rearing, and I’m hands-on in the execution. My ultimate goal is to ensure my kids thrive, and I approach this journey not as a chore, but as an exciting, ongoing project. This is the sentiment she expressed.
In a family where humor was abundant, thanks to a well-known comedian father, one might assume the author and businesswoman would be surrounded by jokers. However, she vehemently disagreed with this notion.
Zoe acknowledged that Rudy has a great sense of humor, with excellent comic delivery. However, she shared that this isn’t true for her oldest child.
