Richard Armitage’s popular ITV thriller to return without him
Oh, the joy that sweeps over me as a devoted fan of gripping British dramas! The news that ITV has renewed “Red Eye” for another season is music to my ears. I remember staying glued to my screen every week during the first season, my heart racing with anticipation as the story unfolded. Richard Armitage’s chilling portrayal of Dr Matthew Nolan and Jing Lusi’s determined Detective Constable Hana Li were performances that will forever linger in the annals of my TV memories.
ITV has officially renewed Red Eye for a second season.
The initial season of a six-part suspenseful series premiered in April, featuring Richard Armitage from “Fool Me Once” portraying the role of Dr. Matthew Nolan, alongside Jing Lusi, known for her roles in “Holby City” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” as Detective Constable Hana Li.
The show has been given another chance to air due to its massive success, with more than eight million viewers tuning in for Red Eye. Notably, Lusi will reprise her role, but Armitage won’t be joining us in the upcoming seasons.
Additionally, Lesley Sharp (who plays Madeline Delaney on Scott and Bailey) and Jemma Moore (portraying Jess Li) are set to return for the upcoming season.
Further casting will be unveiled next year when Red Eye season two is scheduled to start filming.
ITV’s drama chief Polly Hill announced that the thriller will continue, expressing her joy over its impressive performance.
She expressed amazement at reaching an audience of more than 8 million, and offered heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to creating this engaging, hard-to-stop-watching thriller, as stated.
“I can’t wait for audiences to see where Pete takes series 2. It’s another exciting ride!”
In the first season penned by Peter A Dowling, Nolan (portrayed by Armitage), was apprehended upon arriving at London Heathrow Airport after a business trip to Beijing.
In China, Nolan was unfortunately involved in a car accident involving a woman, whose current status is suspect due to her being presumed dead. However, Nolan maintains that he was traveling solo in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
As I’m being escorted by Agent Hana Li back to Beijing, I wasn’t expecting our journey to be anything like a smooth ride on the high seas.
As reported by ITV, the initial episode attracted a total of 8.3 million viewers across various platforms. Moreover, the series has accumulated a total of 29.3 million streams on ITVX since its launch.
Red Eye season one is available to stream now on ITVX.
