Trailblazing Australian rock icon who worked with Jimi Hendrix dies at the age of 84

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for music history and the pioneers who shaped it, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Judy Cannon, the trailblazing Australian rock icon. Having lived through the era when she reigned supreme, I can attest to her groundbreaking impact on the music scene.

Trailblazing Australian rock icon Judy Cannon has died at the age of 84.

According to the Herald Sun, the singer from Melbourne died in Ballarat, Victoria, on August 29, following a prolonged struggle with an illness.

Known for collaborating with globally recognized figures such as Jimi Hendrix, Johnny O’Keefe, and Cliff Richard, Judy leaves behind her daughters Cass and Denny.

Coral Drouyn, a lifelong companion of Judy, referred to Judy as the pioneering Australian female rock artist while offering a tribute to her extraordinary and boundary-pushing friend.

In her unique way, she was an exceptional individual, paving the path for numerous artists who came after, as Coral shared with the Herald Sun.

As a die-hard admirer, I’d say, “I’ve always been captivated by her, the pioneering woman who shattered the glass ceiling of Australian rock music. She was the first female to rule those waves Down Under, and she did it with style! Unquestionably unique, she lived every moment with a zest that was simply inspiring.”

“Successful female singers from the last 50 years owe a significant debt of gratitude to the pioneering woman who paved the way for them over 60 years ago.”

Born in Melbourne in 1939, Judy embarked on her career during the 1950s and put out several songs alongside The Thunderbirds during the swinging ’60s.

Originally, she signed a contract with a recording company, but they pressured her to put out popular music. However, she eventually surpassed their expectations and decided to follow her genuine love for rock ‘n’ roll instead.
