Netflix is reviving another hit Adam Sandler comedy with original cast back for sequel

Netflix is making another Grown Ups movie, bringing back the original actors. This third film is happening because of Adam Sandler’s deal with the streaming service and his production company, Happy Madison.

Following the positive reception of Happy Gilmore 2, which premiered on Netflix last year, the streaming service is now bringing back another popular comedy with Grown Ups 3 (according to Tudum).

Adam Sandler is working on a third Grown Ups movie, 13 years after the second film came out. He’s writing the script with Tim Herlihy, who also co-wrote Grown Ups 2 and will produce the film alongside Sandler, Jackie Sandler, and Jack Giarraputo. Kyle Newacheck, who previously directed Sandler in Murder Mystery and Happy Gilmore 2, is directing this new installment.

So, Grown Ups came out in 2010, and it’s basically about me and four of my childhood buddies – Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider – getting back together for our old basketball coach’s funeral. It’s a pretty funny movie!

The friends plan another reunion for the Fourth of July weekend, this time bringing their wives – played by Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Joyce Van Patten, and Salma Hayek. The 2013 sequel brought them back together when Adam Sandler’s character, Lenny, returned to their hometown and they reconnected.

Reviewers described the comedians in Grown Ups as likeable, but criticized the movie’s story as underdeveloped and the jokes as crude. The second film received even harsher reviews, with critics calling it awful, according to The Irish Times.

The review was brutal, claiming no one could have predicted how bad the comedy would be. Vulture went even further, suggesting the sequel made the original film seem like a classic masterpiece – comparing it to The Maltese Falcon.

It’s still uncertain if the third movie will improve its critical reception, or if reviews will stay negative. But for Adam Sandler fans in the UK, both Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2 are currently available to stream on Prime Video before they’re removed in nine days.

Grown Ups 3 is officially in development at Netflix.
