Singer Taeil is leaving K-pop group NCT over sex-crime allegation
As a connoisseur of the global music scene, I’ve had the privilege to delve into various genres and subcultures, one of which is the vibrant world of K-pop. The recent news about Taeil, a member of NCT, leaving the group due to allegations of sex crimes, has left me both saddened and concerned.
South Korean singer Taeil is leaving the K-pop group NCT over a sex crime allegation.
On Wednesday, it was disclosed by Taeil’s management company, SM Entertainment, that the South Korean singer, aged 30, will be leaving the agency following the revelation that he is under investigation for allegations involving sexual misconduct.
Despite the label not explicitly listing the supposed offenses, a translation of its text indicates, “We acknowledged the gravity of the matter and concluded that Taeil is no longer permitted to participate in group engagements.”
The statement shared that we’ve had a conversation regarding the issue with Taeil, and as a result, it’s been determined that he will depart from the group. Furthermore, they mentioned that he is diligently engaged in his police investigation duties. Additionally, SM expressed their regrets for any confusion or uproar generated within the public by their artist.

Originally formed as Neo Culture Technology in 2016, this group is recognized for its versatile and experimental music that spans various genres. Comprised of over a dozen members, the collective is split into subgroups such as NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT Wish. Recently, Taeil, who is now 30 years old, has been associated with NCT 127 and contributed to the promotion of their sixth studio album, “Walk,” which came out in July. Meanwhile, his fellow bandmate Jaehyun released a solo album just this week.
1. According to the Associated Press, the details of the criminal case report remain unconfirmed as they couldn’t be independently verified, and the police chose not to provide comments regarding the matter. Meanwhile, Korea JoongAng Daily reported that despite Taeil leaving NCT, his contract with SM Entertainment has not been officially ended yet.
Based on Billboard reports, Taeil’s involvement with the group has been minimal over the past year due to his recovery from a motorcycle accident that occurred in August 2023. The singer underwent surgery and took time off to concentrate on his rehabilitation process. In October, SM Entertainment stated that he still needed more treatment following the operation, leading him to miss the NCT 127 tour which commenced in November.
