As a seasoned cinephile with years of experiencing the highs and lows of live performances, I can empathize deeply with TLC and their sudden cancellation at the Great New York State Fair. Food poisoning or not, it’s never easy to disappoint fans who eagerly await your performance.

This weekend, I had to pause my movie marathon due to an unexpected turn of events involving TLC’s T-Boz. She ended up in the hospital due to some uncomfortable symptoms she was feeling.

The musical duo of T-Boz and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, known for their songs like “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs,” were scheduled to perform at the Great New York State Fair on Friday evening, but unfortunately had to cancel their show just before it started. It was announced on Instagram by the fair that T-Boz was experiencing symptoms related to food poisoning, causing the cancellation of the performance.

“We wish her a quick recovery,” the statement added.

The following day, TLC provided further clarification on their decision to pull out from the state fair performance, dismissing rumors that T-Boz suffered from food poisoning. Instead, they explained that T-Boz, aged 54, had suddenly and severely experienced nausea, vomiting, and intense abdominal cramps, as stated in an Instagram story update shared by The Great New York State Fair on Saturday.

“As soon as she arrived, a doctor examined her, and later in the day, she was admitted to the hospital for more tests due to a suspected serious abdominal issue,” the statement explained. “Unfortunately, Tionne’s severe abdominal blockage diagnosis last night forced the cancellation of both the Syracuse and Foxwood shows.”

Following the Grand New York State Fair, TLC was scheduled to perform with Shaggy on a Saturday at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT. T-Boz was receiving medical care and was anticipated to be discharged on Sunday, according to the statement.

A representative for TLC did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment Monday.

The sudden announcements of TLC’s concert cancellation at the last minute and T-Boz’s hospitalization over the weekend sparked a variety of responses on social media. Some Instagram users criticized the duo for cancelling their state fair show just 30 minutes before it was scheduled to start, while others expressed sympathy for T-Boz.

“One fan wrote on Saturday, ‘I hope no clown who mockingly joked about her never has to face a similar health crisis.'”

TLC expressed their apologies to both fans and event organizers for having to cancel certain shows. They stated their intention to rearrange these canceled events at a later date. The band explained that this decision was made in light of advice from T-Boz’s doctor, who recommended an overnight hospital stay so she could undergo a CT scan to evaluate the gravity of her health condition.

“The group appreciates the understanding and support,” the statement said.
