KONAMI has announced the first details for the next season of eFootball, version 6.0. The update will include several new features and improvements to how the game plays.
During the recent eFootball CONNECT livestream at the World Festival, KONAMI revealed that the upcoming season will emphasize more strategic gameplay, exciting tournaments, and overall improved match experiences. Here’s a breakdown of everything announced in the eFootball 2027 v6.0 update.

Custom Tournament feature arrives in eFootball
A really cool addition in version 6.0 is the new Custom Tournament feature! It lets you make your own tournaments, or join ones created by other players. You can personalize all the rules and settings to organize games with friends and online communities.
This feature is included as part of KONAMI’s new initiative, ‘Play On All Together.’ It’s a welcome improvement and will be very helpful for managing competitive matches going forward.
New Team Playstyle: Overload
eFootball 2027 will feature a new team tactic called “Overload.” Instead of focusing on keeping possession or quick counter-attacks like other tactics, Overload is designed to get more players near the ball, creating an advantage over the opposing team.
Offensively, you’ll likely see more players crowding around whoever has the ball, encouraging quick, short passes to keep possession. Defensively, teams will focus on staying tightly organized and quickly pressuring opponents. This style is similar to ‘gegenpressing,’ emphasizing winning the ball back immediately after losing it, unlike strategies like Quick Counter which rely on longer, faster breaks.
So, Konami just let us know they’re adding some new managers to the game who are really good at using the ‘Overload’ tactic. It sounds like they’ll be a big help if you want to try and master that style of play!
Separate attacking and defending formations added
The biggest improvement in the eFootball 2027 season update is the new feature that lets you customize formations for both attacking and defending situations.
This will give us more options for how we approach games. For example, we can have our fullbacks join the attack and push forward, or instruct our wingers to fall back and help with defense. We could also use a tactic where we push extra players into midfield, and when we have possession, have our defensive midfielder drop back to temporarily act as a central defender during attacks.
This update lets players create their ideal teams with greater flexibility and get the most out of using substitutes. It significantly enhances the value of Position Trainers.
Managers with two Link-Up Plays are coming
The new update gives you more ways to play and lets you customize formations, but top-tier Managers may become more expensive. We’re also improving the Link-Up Play system, and some new Managers will come with two unique Link-Up Plays.
I’m really excited about this new update! It looks like we’ll have so much more control over how we play – not only choosing our usual tactics, but also being able to customize Link-Up plays. I wonder if we can even set different Link-Up plays for when we’re attacking versus defending? If so, that would be incredibly powerful and give us a ton of options to consider. It’s going to take some getting used to, but in a good way!
Gameplay changes coming with Season Update
I’m really excited about update 6.0! KONAMI is letting us do volley shots while we’re in the air now, using something called Stunning Shots. Plus, they’re changing up the Daily Game – it’s going to be called Daily Super Play, and it sounds like they’re going to give us different challenges each day, which should keep things interesting.

The new season for eFootball 2027 will be released in August 2026. KONAMI plans to share more details in an upcoming eFootball CONNECT broadcast before it launches. We anticipate maintenance starting around August 13th, once current events conclude, and the update may take a few days to become available.
