As a dedicated Outlander fan who has journeyed through the highlands and the past with Jamie and Claire for nearly a decade, I can say that the anticipation for the series’ conclusion is palpable. The thought of the show ending before all the books are out recalls the bittersweet end of Game of Thrones, leaving us craving for more. However, unlike Dany’s dragons, we have Sam Heughan, who has been working tirelessly to ensure that the series gets an ending worthy of our beloved characters and their stories.

As the second half of Outlander Season 7 approaches, fans are growing restless about how the story will conclude in its eighth season. At this moment, the production is filming the last season in Scotland. The show can’t adapt all of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series due to the vast amount of material and ongoing work on the final book; however, the specific ways the ending might differ remain unknown.

Actor Sam Heughan, known for his role as Jamie Fraser in Outlander, has been open about desiring an alternate conclusion for the series and advocating for a specific path during the final season. As Heughan stated, “I wish to conclude the story, not just for myself but for the fans as well. It would feel unsatisfying to simply end it on a cliffhanger.”

Despite the fact that Diana Gabaldon is yet to complete her Outlander book series, leaving certain stories untold, the main actor expressed his desire to provide a fitting conclusion for the TV show. In his own words, “We’ll have to find an ending somehow. Not necessarily the same as the books end it. I’m advocating for a different finale.”

To put it simply, anything is possible at this point, as long as it provides fans a satisfying resolution and joyful conclusion to the love story they’ve been invested in for nearly a decade. With Heughan expressing his support, I believe we can expect an ending that truly resonates.
