Zenith has released a new version of its classic 1969 Chronomaster chronograph, called the Revival A384 Tropical. It blends vintage design elements with modern features, offering a nostalgic yet contemporary timepiece.
The original A384 was among the first watches to feature the El Primero movement – a groundbreaking, automatic, high-frequency chronograph. This new version takes inspiration from rare, aged dials known as “tropical” dials. These dials originally had black faces, but over time, exposure to sunlight and air caused them to naturally transform into beautiful, warm brown shades.
Okay, so this Revival A384 Tropical watch… it’s got that classic, smaller 37mm stainless steel case – it feels really solid. It keeps the old-school pump pushers too, and they’ve done a cool mix of brushed and polished finishes. The hour markers and hands are coated with this Super-LumiNova that looks like aged radium, giving it a vintage vibe but still making it easy to read. And to keep things modern, they added a bright red second hand for the chronograph. It’s a nice blend of old and new, honestly.
The Chronomaster Revival A384 Tropical features the El Primero 400 calibre movement, a direct descendant of the groundbreaking original from over 50 years ago. Built entirely in-house by Zenith, this chronograph boasts exceptional precision with 36,000 vibrations per hour, enabling measurements accurate to the nearest tenth of a second. You can admire the movement – including its unique star-shaped rotor – through the sapphire case back, and it offers a 50-hour power reserve. This watch is available for $10,000 USD at Zenith boutiques and authorized retailers globally.
