See How We’re Explaining This Trend? Very Demure, Very Mindful

As an old-school movie buff with decades of experience, I must admit that I find this new trend of “demure” quite intriguing. It’s refreshing to see young creators like Jools Lebron and Devin Halbal promoting respectfulness and mindfulness, especially in a world where brashness often seems to rule the day.

In this article, I’m taking care to introduce a new concept that might be unfamiliar to you – that’s known as being considerate. As for the straightforward introduction I’ve provided, to help you grasp the topic more easily, that could be described as modest or unassuming.

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve noticed an intriguing trend sweeping across social media platforms within the last week or so. It seems to be primarily driven by trans women, offering guidance on maintaining grace and poise in their content. One of the trailblazers who sparked this movement is a renowned influencer named Jools Lebron. On August 2nd, she posted a video, providing a solution for removing that unsightly white mustache caused by makeup and sweat mixing. With her problem solved, she concluded with a subtle hint of elegance, saying “Very demure.”

Following her first video, Lebron posted a second one where she endorses a perfume. The caption in the video reads “Strategies for maintaining grace and awareness at work,” and she offers tips on staying modest and considerate while on the job. This video amassed over 3 million views in no time, and she started releasing numerous similar videos that consistently attracted millions more viewers. In one of these, she shows how she demurely retrieves her ID from a gay bar she had left behind after a night out. “I’m very demure, I’m very mindful. I don’t go to the bar for drinks; I get my ID and leave.” In another video, she explains proper airport etiquette: “I don’t rush, I wait my turn. I don’t push in.”

Lebron’s concept of demureness is more about an inner attitude, contrasting starkly with the boisterous summer that encouraged behavior far from demure. The traditional definition includes being reserved, humble, and respectful. In a video, she emphasized that acknowledging those who paved the way before you, like transgender ballroom star Venus Xtravaganza (from the influential film “Paris Is Burning”), is demonstrative of demureness while also creating opportunities for future generations. However, since her videos gained popularity, the term ‘demure’ has evolved, inspiring comedic videos about eating large sandwiches or donuts in a supposedly demure manner and jokes about what does and doesn’t fit the description of demure.

As someone who has spent years observing and analyzing the world of social media influencers, I must say that it is refreshing to see creators like Devin Halbal using their platform to promote humility and self-awareness. With over 2 million views on her viral video, Halbal’s message resonates with many who struggle to maintain a modest online presence in the face of constant attention and adoration. In my personal experience as a social media user and researcher, I have witnessed firsthand the negative consequences that can arise from a lack of self-control and humility on these platforms.

Although it seems like LeBron’s videos on the topic gained massive popularity first, other content creators have suggested that they were the ones who popularized the trend. A user named @mayalabruja shared a video discussing another creator, @selyna.brillare, who asserted in her deleted videos that she initiated the trend.

In a recent video response to the drama, some claimed Halbal initiated a “demure” takeover. However, LeBron commented under the video, stating that there’s only positive energy between them. His comment said, “Devin extending kindness and nothing but love was thoughtful.”

Regardless of the ongoing turmoil, these women are determined to voice their aspirations for a refined society. After all, such turbulence hardly embodies grace or thoughtfulness, does it? It rarely promotes tranquility.
