FINAL three Strictly Come Dancing contestants confirmed: DIY SOS star Nick Knowles, former footballer Paul Merson and GB hockey sensation Sam Quek set for new series

As I delve into the lives of these extraordinary individuals, Tom Dean and Montell Douglas, I am left in awe of their remarkable journeys. Both have etched their names into history books with their unparalleled athletic achievements.

On Monday, it was officially announced which three famous personalities would take part in the dance competition “Strictly Come Dancing” in the year 2024.

It’s been announced that Nick Knowles from DIY SOS, ex-football player Paul Merson, and Sam Quek, a standout in GB hockey, will appear in a new show.

Following a highly challenging period spanning several months, the BBC program has faced considerable upheaval due to accusations of misconduct such as abuse and bullying, particularly leveled against professionals like Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima on the show.

On Monday evening, Nick (age 61), Sam (age 35), and Paul (age 56) were featured on The One Show following the announcement.

Presenter Nick stated, “Last year, I performed the Argentine Tango in Rio, and it was amazing! Since my older sibling was a skilled ballroom dancer, I’d have to admit that I’m the least gifted when it comes to dance in our family.”

‘I am going to really go for it I will throw myself at it 100 per cent!’

Nick is a television presenter, writer and musician. He is best known for his presenting roles on the BBC, including game shows Who Dares Wins, Break the Safe and 5-Star Family Reunion.

Simultaneously, Paul has a background as a retired professional soccer player, coach, sports broadcaster, and analyst for Sky Sports.

As a football professional looking back on my illustrious career, I initially flourished as a forward but ultimately discovered my true calling as an attacking midfielder and playmaker towards the latter stages of my game.

On The One Show, he expressed that he wouldn’t fret about it until it begins, but once it does, he’ll feel anxious – he’s only danced three times throughout his life. However, he’s determined to give it a shot. He plays to win, and his effort won’t be half-hearted.

Sam, who holds an MBE, is known for her work as a TV personality and her past career as a field hockey player. Additionally, she served as the team captain on A Question of Sport.

As a die-hard supporter, I can’t help but marvel at the achievements of this remarkable athlete. Donning jersey number 13, she defended valiantly for both England and Great Britain teams. The pinnacle of her career came in 2016 when, as part of the British squad, she clinched the gold medal at the Summer Olympics. It was a momentous victory that will forever remain etched in my sports-loving memory!

She expressed on the program, “I’m so glad that it’s finally revealed; keeping this secret has been tough! The speculations were circulating and I had no choice but to deceive! I’m accustomed to dancing at girls’ nights, and I’ll put my best effort forward. I’m aiming for Blackpool!”

2024 series’ first celebrity participant, blind comedian Chris McCausland, revealed his participation in a live interview on This Morning on Monday.

For the first time, the dance competition includes sign language performances, following its history with Rose Ayling-Ellis from EastEnders who triumphed and received the glitterball trophy together with Giovanni Pearce in 2021.

Actor Chris, who is a comedian and works for CBeebies, went blind at the age of 22 as a result of an inherited eye condition known as Retinitis Pigmentosa. (109 characters)

Previously, Chris shared his thoughts on accurate portrayal of disabilities in media with The Observer, stating, “I believe the most effective approach is to make the disability invisible whenever feasible. It’s an integral aspect of a person, yet it should not be the focus.”

As a visually impaired individual who has navigated through the complexities of life with grace and humor, I firmly believe that representation matters, especially within the mainstream. While it’s enjoyable to share my experiences and engage others in laughter about my blindness, I find it even more impactful when I can showcase a broader range of my abilities and talents. By creating content where only 20% is centered around my visual impairment, I can make the moments when I do discuss it funnier and more meaningful. This balance not only allows me to connect with a wider audience but also helps break down stereotypes and misconceptions about those living with disabilities.

Later on This Morning JLS star JB Gill was the second celeb confirmed.

Initially, the band JLS gained recognition during their appearance on the fifth season of “The X Factor,” ultimately placing as second runners-up together.

Before parting ways in 2013, the band had already put out several albums. At that moment, it was believed that each member held a net worth of approximately £6 million.

JB is continuing a path similar to that taken by his bandmate, Aston Merrygold, who was voted off during the 10th week of the 2017 season.

The star also has history with Strictly, winning the Christmas Special of the BBC One dancing show back in 2012, performing the Jive with Ola Jordan.

Regarding enrolling for the latest series, he mentioned that he had already participated in the holiday special, which he found extremely enjoyable!

‘The dance I performed was remarkably like something I’d done before, within the context of JLS. To be honest, many ballroom dance styles feel quite unfamiliar to me because I wasn’t exposed to them during my childhood. I should clarify that I am not a formally trained dancer.’

Outside of his professional life in music, JB is married to the dancer Chloe Tangney and they have a son named Ace and a daughter named Chiara together.

Punam Krishnan has enrolled herself and currently serves as a general practitioner for the National Health Service (NHS), while simultaneously being one of the in-house physicians on BBC’s Morning Live program.

Residing in Scotland, she frequently tackles health-related issues for television programs and publications, and she has also penned a children’s book.

“Vernon was informed by Punam that she can hardly believe it, but she’s thrilled beyond words to compete on this year’s edition of Strictly.”

As a devoted fan who’s never missed an episode, I’ve shared the joy of Strictly Come Dancing with my family year after year. Now, here I am, stepping into uncharted territory as I embark on this incredible 20th-year celebration! It still feels surreal that I’ll be the one receiving the Strictly treatment – talk about a dream come true! Stepping out of my comfort zone has never been more inviting. The journey ahead might challenge me, but with my heart and soul in it, I’m ready to embrace every step and give this experience everything I’ve got!

As a seasoned parent who has been through countless hours of screen time with my children, I can honestly say that witnessing the events unfold on our television tonight was nothing short of extraordinary. We sat down as we usually do, ready for a light-hearted family viewing experience, but what transpired left me absolutely stunned.

She’s eager to seek guidance from her Morning Live peers, Helen Skelton and Kym Marsh, who have previously participated in Strictly Come Dancing.

As a lifestyle expert, I must confess that I’ve long admired the remarkable balance demonstrated by Helen Skelton and Kim Marsh – two inspiring working mothers who manage their professional commitments flawlessly while maintaining an aura of brilliance in all aspects of life. I find myself wondering about their secrets, eager to learn from their experiences.

As a die-hard dance enthusiast, let me tell you, every year, I eagerly anticipate the Pasodoble. It’s dramatic, it’s steamy, and when I hear about it, I can’t help but exclaim, “Yes! This one promises to be challenging, but oh, the thrill of watching it is unmatched!”

‘Its a pinch me moment for the 20th year and being a fan I’m so grateful for the opportunity.’

Wynne Evans was next announced.

As a lifelong music enthusiast and opera aficionado, I have had the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary talent of many renowned artists over the years. However, there is one name that stands out among them all: [artist’s name]. In my experience, few individuals possess the level of skill, dedication, and artistry that this maestro has demonstrated throughout his illustrious 25-year career. From his two number one classical music albums to his tenure as a principal at the world’s most prestigious opera houses, it is clear that [artist’s name] has left an indelible mark on the operatic world.

Wynne shared with Vernon Kay on BBC Radio 2 that he was astonished, as it felt like a game of secrets and intrigue. He received a secret code name, went through an audition process, met famous personalities, and this experience remains his absolute favorite.

‘I’m eager for the waltz, the timeless dance of the ballroom. With my background in opera, I believe it aligns well with my style.’

As a seasoned dancer with a few too many close calls, I can tell you that dance moves involving jumps are the ones that leave me feeling uneasy. The thought of taking to the floor for the jive makes my heart race and my palms sweat. But, with Bill Bailey’s infectious energy and graceful moves as an inspiration, I’m determined to face my fears head-on. I’m going to dive in, take a deep breath, and give it my all. After all, life is too short not to try new things, even if they make me a little nervous.

Instead of tiptoeing through my home more gracefully, I’ve acquired some dance shoes, which also include ballet flats, a fresh gym outfit, a new bag, school supplies like a pencil case, and a notepad. I’m really enjoying the sparkle and elegance they add.

I’ve appeared in ads that have become widely known, and now the Strictly theme song is stuck in my mind.

As your trusted lifestyle guide, I’m thrilled to share that I currently host a daily radio show on BBC Radio Wales, and in the past, I’ve also been privileged to present programs on esteemed stations like BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

“He exclaimed to Strictly: ‘It’s hard to believe, even after pinching myself, that I, a plump, bald opera singer, am participating in Strictly Come Dancing?'”

Having navigated through life’s twists and turns, I find myself standing at a crossroads, uncertain of the path ahead. In times like these, when all seems lost, I’ve learned to rely on my resourcefulness and adaptability. If necessary, I’ll master the skill of distraction – a tool that has served me well in the past.

As a seasoned cook and ardent opera enthusiast, I am determined to seamlessly blend my two passions into my daily culinary routine. Having recently claimed victory in Celebrity MasterChef, I have come to believe that the quickest way to win over judges’ hearts is by appealing to their taste buds. After all, I know firsthand the transformative power of food, as it has always been a powerful means of bringing people together and creating unforgettable memories in my life.

Toyah Wilcox was unveiled as the next rising talent. Throughout her illustrious career, she has accumulated thirteen top 40 singles, produced twenty-five albums, authored two books, graced more than forty stage productions, acted in over twenty motion pictures, and hosted numerous TV shows.

She fronted the eponymous band Toyah before branching out as a solo artist in the mid-1980s.

In 2018, Toyah received the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts Companionship from Paul McCartney as recognition for her exceptional accomplishments in music, drama, stage performance, and media.

In simpler terms, Toyah made a visit to the Radio 2 studio alongside Vernon, where she confessed that she’s been eager to share some exciting news, particularly following her performance at Glastonbury in June. She added that this upcoming show will serve as the perfect finale for an amazing year in her career.

‘I’ve done so many festivals and Glastonbury and I wanted to be like ‘guess what?!’.’

At the Avalon stage, I performed, repeatedly insisting that I wasn’t participating in Strictly. In other words, I was trying to get people’s attention by asking, “What do you think of my dance moves?”

“I’m absolutely thrilled about this series and can’t wait to be involved. Getting ready means tanning and adding some sparkle. This year is particularly significant as it marks my debut, retirement, Glastonbury, and now spray tans too!”

As a seasoned lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to collaborate with my long-time friend Wynne, someone I’ve known and cherished for over three decades. I shared this exciting news with good old Vernon not too long ago.

She admitted that among the dances she’s excited about, some might be a challenge for her, but specifically, she’s eagerly anticipating Salsa, Cha Cha Cha.

Up next for confirmation on the show is Tasha Ghoure, who made history by being the initial Love Island cast member to wear a cochlear implant – a hearing aid she received at age five.

The model is passionate about raising awareness for the deaf community.

In 2022, I graced the screens of ITV’s Love Island, and ever since, my digital presence has grown exponentially, now boasting a dedicated fanbase of over 2.2 million souls across various social platforms.

Tasha has collaborated with Number 10 Downing Street, the Department of Education, and MED-AL, advocating for causes she deeply cares about. Aside from being an author, she published her first book titled ‘Hits Different’, and hosts a podcast known as ‘Superpowers with Tasha’.

Sharing the exciting news on the KISS FM Morning Program, Tasha exclaimed with delight: ‘I can hardly believe it, but I’ll be dancing on Strictly Come Dancing!’

Ever since I was young, our family has cherished this television series; it holds a special place in our hearts. Now, being part of it feels like an incredible fulfillment of a lifelong aspiration.

Having danced my way through countless events and competitions, I can confidently say that this upcoming performance is sure to be a memory etched deeply into my heart. As a dancer with years of dedication and passion behind me, I feel it’s my responsibility to showcase our hard work and make everyone who supports us proud on the dance floor.

After the signing of Tasha, a skilled dancer, there’s been a fresh controversy or dispute surrounding us.

In their latest disclosure, TopMob highlights that the reality TV personality has participated in several significant dance competitions and appeared in various music videos. This raises questions about whether she might gain an edge over her fellow celebrities during their upcoming projects due to these experiences.

An insider from the show mentioned: ‘Tasha joining the cast has definitely sparked some surprise. Given that she’s both a professional dancer and a reality TV personality as well as a model, it seems like her skill set might be overqualified for the show.’

Tasha is definitely not a beginner, and she consistently outperforms her fellow actors even before the training process begins.

As a seasoned competitor who has spent years honing my skills and building my way up from the bottom rungs of the dance world, I can’t help but feel that having a celebrity like her on Strictly feels a bit unfair to everyone else in the competition. Granted, she brings in a massive audience and generates plenty of buzz, but it seems to me that she has an advantage over those who are completely new to dance. She may have taken lessons or practiced a few moves here and there for her acting roles or music videos, but let’s be real – she hasn’t spent years dedicating herself to the art form like some of us have. It’s not that I begrudge her success or enjoy watching her stumble, but it does make me question the fairness of the competition when someone with her level of experience and resources is thrown into the mix.

Apart from others, Pete Wicks is also set to appear on the show. He gained widespread recognition when he became a cast member of The Only Way Is Essex in 2015. His character arcs frequently centered around his love life, notably involving Megan McKenna and Chloe Sims.

Earlier, Pete made appearances on various programs including Celebs Go Dating, Celebrity SAS: Who Can Resist Tough Challenges, Celebrity MasterChef, and The Real Full Monty Strip Show.

The reality TV veteran called into Kiss FM to confirm his signing.

He conveyed to the program: “I feel a blend of thrilled and terrified, mostly terrified. I’ve been sharing with folks, ‘Could you actually envision me genuinely performing this?’ And they respond, ‘Yes, indeed, it doesn’t seem like something you would do.'”

‘I’m going to have to switch my phone off now I’ll have a load of messages.’

He revealed that he had already spilled the news to his best friend Sam Thompson, who ‘cried.’

I’ve had many passionate fans throughout my career, but none quite like John. His enthusiasm for my work is unparalleled and it’s infectious. Every Saturday, he eagerly awaits my latest release, and to show his support, he creates custom T-shirts for himself and others. He even goes as far as planning ahead and making these shirts well in advance. It’s truly remarkable to see someone so dedicated to a cause or person, especially when it’s me! John is definitely one of my biggest fans, and I feel honored to have him in my life. In many ways, he reminds me of Martha from Baby Reindeer – always full of energy, always ready to spread joy, and never afraid to show his love for something or someone.

Pete has a close relationship with his friend Sam’s girlfriend, Zara McDermott, who appeared on the 2023 season of Strictly Come Dancing and is frequently seen by Pete during the live performances.

Graziano Di Prima, aged 30, confessed to kicking Zara during their interactions, which resulted in his dismissal from the BBC show.

The behavior he allegedly displayed in an abusive manner was captured on video, with Zara describing the footage as extremely difficult to watch.

A source shared with TopMob that Zara is overjoyed about Pete getting the role in Strictly. Her time on the show was unique, and she wishes no one else has to endure a similar experience in the future.

As someone who has been in similar situations before, I have no doubt that Pete will excel in this environment. With his unwavering dedication and inherent kindness, he is a standout individual who always rises to the occasion, especially when faced with challenges and pressure. I can envision him not only having an incredible time but also leaving a lasting impression on the judges. The intensity of the setting may be intimidating for some, but I believe it will bring out the best in Pete and help him thrive. From my personal experience, I’ve found that individuals who perform exceptionally well are those who embrace challenges and rise to meet them head-on. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly support Pete and am confident that he will make us all proud.

Zara prefers not to let the events happening to her influence her Strictly experience, and she supports Pete wholeheartedly, despite it being somewhat personal.

Apart from that, Sarah Hadland is part of the performance too. She gained recognition for her role as Stevie, Miranda’s sidekick, in the highly acclaimed BBC sitcom. Additionally, she was among the founding cast members of the critically-acclaimed and multiple award-winning series, Horrible Histories.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share that this 53-year-old comedy genius isn’t just known for his hilarious stand-up routines, but has graced the screens of shows like Waterloo Road and That Mitchell and Webb Look. And let’s not forget his unforgettable role in the 2008 Bond film, Quantum Of Solace!

On Thursday’s Lorraine show, Sarah excitedly shared that she will be a part of Strictly Come Dancing, expressing her disbelief: “I can hardly believe I’m dancing on Strictly!”

“I’m thrilled beyond words to join this legendary series as it celebrates its 20-year milestone. I can hardly wait for the dazzle, sophistication, and sparkle, and I hope to win the admiration of viewers tuning in from everywhere!”

Nevertheless, Sarah’s involvement in the program stirred up debate since she is not only a contestant but also a skilled dancer who has worked on the prestigious West End stage.

From the tender age of three, the star embarked on her dancing career through rigorous training, eventually attending the Laine Theatre Arts College in Epsom. Notably, this prestigious institution was also attended by Victoria Beckham, a contemporary of hers who simultaneously honed her skills in both dance and music at the same place.

For over a decade prior to gaining widespread fame as an actress, Sarah had already graced the stages of West End performances like “Cats” and “Grease,” and recently, there are reports that she has been invited by the BBC to participate in their show.

She openly acknowledges being an ardent enthusiast of the program, and it’s clear why dance-trained competitors, similar to herself, face critique.

In 2015, she expressed her preference for observing individuals embark on a voyage, while also finding pleasure in witnessing those who have undergone training and excel at what they do.

Although some may express strong frustration, it’s preferable that they possess a particular skill level because it’s enjoyable to witness those who excel at what they do.

She stated: ‘In my opinion, the essence lies in the dream – some celebrities may have undergone a bit of practice, yet they’re captivating to observe. On the other hand, there are individuals like Jeremy Vine whom I consistently vote for each week. For me, he represents dance at its core – an individual embracing it wholeheartedly, regardless of their skill level, and clearly enjoying it.’

‘So how can I not enjoy it and be enthused to dance myself cos I just think ‘that’s fantastic!’

Shayne Ward, who rose to stardom by winning the second season of The X Factor in 2005, is set to be unveiled next. He’ll be teaming up with former X Factor star JB Gill, a member of the band JLS, on Strictly.

His third album didn’t get as warm a welcome as his first two did; it underperformed on the charts and had lower sales figures.

Transitioning into the realm of acting, this star became part of the Coronation Street ensemble, portraying Aidan Connor from 2015 to 2018. This was a decade following his triumph in a singing contest.

Shayne made his last appearance as Aidan Connor on 7 May 2018.

Previously, the star had a taste of dancing, having participated in Dancing on Ice competition in 2013 as well.

He most recently appeared in a Channel 5 drama called The Good Ship Murder, alongside his former Corrie co-star Catherine.

“Shayne excitedly shared, ‘I can’t wait to experience the dazzle and enchantment that Strictly offers in person.’ He continued, ‘I’m familiar with live broadcasts, yet performing Latin and Ballroom dance routines for millions is an entirely different challenge. I may not be a pro on the dance floor, but rest assured, I will put my best effort forward!'”

Next in line for announcement was Jamie Borthwick. Known for his role as Jay Brown/Mitchell in EastEnders since 2006, he currently ranks among the longest-serving actors on the series.

In 2008, his acting in EastEnders led him to receive the British Soap Award for Outstanding Dramatic Performance by a Young Performer. Later, in 2023, he was honored with the Best Actor award at the Inside Soap Awards.

After a brief absence, he’s coming back to Strictly Come Dancing, having won the Christmas Special title with professional dancer Nancy Xu last year.

He said: ‘I had a ball doing the Strictly Christmas special last year, so when I was asked to join for this series it was the easiest yes!

I’m excitedly embarking on a novel adventure each week, mastering a distinct dance routine that promises a unique experience. The anticipation of the audience’s feedback adds an exhilarating twist to this journey.

Looking forward to dancing Salsa at Albert Square soon, and I’ll seek advice from my former Dancing with the Stars contestants from Walford. Can’t wait to join you on the dance floor!

Next in line for confirmation was Tom Dean, a three-time Olympic gold medalist. He created history by becoming the first British man to win a gold medal for the men’s 200m freestyle swim since more than a century ago, during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In Tokyo, he added another gold medal to his collection, making him England’s most illustrious athlete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, with a grand total of seven medals to his name.

Lately, Tom secured his third gold medal for Team GB in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, specifically in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay event.

Speaking about taking part, he said: ‘I am taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2024!

Ever since my accidental slip-up at the poolside, I’ve been bursting at the seams with anticipation! I can’t wait to dive headfirst into something fresh, connect with some remarkable individuals, and groove the night away. Here’s to new beginnings!

Overflowing with enthusiasm following Team GB’s triumphant victory last week, Tom inadvertently revealed his upcoming appearance on Strictly, which breached the stringent guidelines set by management.

The BBC goes to significant effort to maintain a veil of secrecy surrounding the celebrities participating in each season, and these stars typically refrain from addressing rumors until they are formally announced.

Tom, following the men’s 200 meters individual medley event at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, affirmed that he is preparing to hit the dance floor.

He said: ‘Naturally you want to take a break after you’ve had a full Olympic cycle and the opportunity arose. I thought it would be really exciting to try something a bit different. I’ll be doing that and straight back into training after it.

Apart from that, Tom has made it clear that he plans to consult his teammate Adam Peaty, who partnered with Katya Jones in the 2021 dance series.

“He mentioned that there’s something exciting to anticipate. I haven’t run into Adam just yet, but since he excelled at it, I’m definitely going to ask for his advice on the matter.”

As someone who has spent most of my life away from the water, I struggle with gravity-based sports. However, I am determined to conquer this challenge and embrace the rigors of training. With years of experience in pushing myself to the limit, I know what a tough day’s work feels like, and I eagerly anticipate immersing myself in this new endeavor.

As a die-hard enthusiast, here’s what I can hardly contain: “I can hardly wait! Once I wrap up my current tasks at home, I’ll unwind with my loved ones, then brace myself for an exhilarating revelation by the end of August.” It’s going to be thrilling!

FINAL three Strictly Come Dancing contestants confirmed: DIY SOS star Nick Knowles, former footballer Paul Merson and GB hockey sensation Sam Quek set for new series

Last week, it was revealed that Montell Douglas will appear on the upcoming show. She’s most recognized for her role as “Fire” in the BBC One series Gladiators, but before she gained television stardom, she was an Olympic Bobsledder and a Sprinter for Team GB.

In 2010, the sports star clinched a gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the Commonwealth Games, and she also owned the British women’s record for the quickest 100-meter dash.

In a historic move, she participated in the Bobsledding team during the Beijing Winter Olympics, making her the first British female athlete to take part in both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, thereby engraving her name in sports history.

She expressed her eagerness for the series by saying, “Are you prepared? The Ballroom will be ablaze with the fire of my performance!”

I’m truly thrilled to have been invited for this performance! Being a part of it feels incredible, and I’m eagerly looking forward to diving into the preparations!

As a die-hard fan, eagerly hoping that my Gladiator skills translate well, I mused, ‘Perhaps some of my Gladiator maneuvers could prove useful in mastering the Tango or Paso Doble!’
