The show was a behemoth that captivated audiences worldwide, and it’s safe to say that we all shared the collective heartbreak as the final season unfolded.

During the majority of the 2010s decade, “Game of Thrones” reigned supreme among television shows, offering a captivating blend of dragon-filled adventures and deeply nuanced characters that were characteristic of premium HBO programming. However, in 2019, opinions shifted dramatically, as numerous viewers expressed dissatisfaction with the final season and the series finale. In this conclusion, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) ended up killing Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), a character marked by genocide, before returning to the Night’s Watch.

To this very moment, there remains a wide range of perspectives regarding the intense criticism directed towards the final season. Could it have been due to its pace or plot developments? Or perhaps it was the overzealous behavior of some fans? For Kit Harington, it was an extraordinary situation. “I entered with everyone adoring ‘Game of Thrones’; I exited with everyone condemning it,” he expressed to GQ, questioning, “What’s going on here?!”

The process of developing a story, especially one that follows a character post-war, requires a great deal of thought, care, and creativity.

It appears that Kit Harington and HBO had brainstormed some potential ideas for a sequel series featuring Jon Snow, but they ultimately couldn’t find a suitable concept, leading the project to be shelved. With Harington now seeking new opportunities outside of “Game of Thrones,” such as his role in “Industry” as a complex tech billionaire, it seems that any potential return to Westeros would require an outstanding proposal. A merely satisfactory idea wouldn’t suffice for him.

“There are many connections that come with it, and I believe this played a role in the challenges we faced,” Harington stated. “It can be tough to break away completely from this past experience, especially since it’s only been a few years since it ended. The role has become such a big part of my life that it might even be the most impactful work I ever do. I met my wife on the set, had children with someone from the production, made lifelong friends, and am recognized due to it.”

[But] it was also working against what I’m trying to do, which is separate myself from [the show]. By still being with it, it [would be] very hard to ask people to see you as something else. And it’s kind of essential to do my job, for people to come and see me and not see Jon Snow.

In the third installment of the HBO series, “Industry,” which delves into the intricate world of high finance, made its debut last night. Harington has been added to the ensemble as Henry Muck, a powerful CEO character he secured without undergoing an audition. The writers, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, were pleased to welcome a well-known figure like him, so they extended the offer without even seeing him first. “It’s always a bit unnerving,” Harington admitted, “as you walk onto set and sense them thinking, What if he doesn’t fit? And there’s the pressure of, What if what I deliver isn’t good enough for them?”

I’ve met a million guys like Henry. And I really prefix this with saying I think a lot of private and public school boys get a very bad rap. There’s many, many very nice guys who are privately educated. But I’ve met some who are entitled in a specific way, which is not obvious. Not your creep, or loudmouth. It’s more like, as much as they might purport to see the world and all its breadth, they really have a very tunnel-vision view of things.
