Susan Sarandon reiterates her support for ceasefire in Gaza and vows to keep speaking out against injustice after being dropped by her agent for saying Jewish people ‘are getting a taste of what it feels like to be Muslim’

As a fervent advocate for social justice and human rights, I have always been moved by the plight of marginalized communities and have felt compelled to use my voice to bring attention to their struggles. My experiences at various protests throughout the years have shaped me deeply. One particular moment that stands out is when I was walking with Marlo Thomas during a march, and she urged me to speak up. Terrified but determined, I did just that, voicing my concerns for the causes we believed in.

Susan Sarandon has once again expressed her views on the unrest in Gaza, vowing to continue advocating for fairness in the face of criticism.

The renowned actor, who won an Oscar and is 77 years old, has publicly expressed her advocacy for Palestine. She has attended multiple protests advocating for a truce between Hamas and Israel during the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

In my experience as a lifestyle expert, I’ve observed that last year, a renowned actress found herself in a challenging situation when her representation by United Talent Agency, headed by CEO Jeremy Zimmer, came to an end. This decision was made following some controversial remarks she made at a pro-Palestine rally in November.

As Susan expressed regret for her past comments in Elle Spain’s newest edition, she emphasized her commitment to putting an end to the ongoing crisis in Gaza, explaining that her passion to combat injustice had driven her for a long time.

With a magazine spread featuring her as the cover star, Thelma and Louise actor articulated how being a well-known actress serves as a megaphone for her, amplifying attention to significant societal concerns.

Despite acknowledging the potential backlash from a significant portion of the industry, Susan strongly advocated for unity to prevent further fatalities among Israelis and Palestinians, believing that no one should endure such a tragic demise.

“She expressed her strong dislike and frustration towards injustice. Having grown up in Washington during the 1960s, she was deeply affected by the ongoing Vietnam War and the shocking assassinations of notable figures such as Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., which cast a dark shadow over the era.”

‘I didn’t have to force myself to educate myself in this sense, it was the only plausible option. 

I’m shocked by the inaccurate information prevalent nowadays, despite having all the resources at our disposal.

Each of us has a responsibility to put an end to the genocide in Gaza, resulting in the saving of Israeli and Palestinian lives. No person deserves such tragic demise.

Based on my personal experiences and observations, I strongly believe that it can be difficult to acknowledge the role we play in issues like war. However, the hard truth is that conflicts like these are often fueled by our financial contributions through taxes. It’s a sobering thought, but it’s important for us to recognize this reality. After all, the money that comes out of my paycheck and yours is being used to fund these conflicts, whether we agree with them or not. We may feel powerless in the face of global events, but collectively, our financial resources hold a significant amount of influence. So let’s make sure we use our voices and our votes to shape a future where our taxes are being put towards causes that align with our values.

It’s commendable when countries such as Spain, Ireland, and Norway express their opposition by stating, “We choose not to be a part of this.”

In the 1970s, as I looked back on my career, I came to understand that being a professional woman in the United States meant having a megaphone with the introduction of the Equal Rights Amendment.

During one of the marches, I walked alongside Marlo Thomas, and she remarked to me, “The only way we’ll make headlines is if you share your voice.” Despite being terrified, I went ahead and spoke out, following my belief in living life this way.

Previously, Susan has taken a stand on various issues, including raising awareness for AIDS, opposing the Iraq War, and speaking out against gun violence – actions that led to her being arrested on different occasions.

In June 2018, she was apprehended during the Women’s Disobey demonstrations, voicing her opposition to then-president Donald Trump’s contentious immigration practice that split families, forcing young children away from their parents.

Last year, she was taken into custody for the second time during a demonstration advocating for higher minimum wages for waitstaff in the restaurant industry.

I frequently find myself amazed when I come across the belief held by some Americans that people from other countries are eagerly seeking entry into the US out of desperation. In reality, what these individuals yearn for is not just entry but the opportunity to build a dignified, stable, and above all, liberated life.

I, an avid fan, cannot help but express my strong opinions about an incident that took place back in November involving a well-known actress from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. At a rally in New York City, she stirred up quite the commotion when she declared that Jewish people were experiencing a taste of what it feels like to be Muslim during the ongoing conflict with Hamas.

She expressed regret for her previous statements during the rally, explaining that she hadn’t meant to participate but was asked to deliver remarks. Her intention was to bring attention to the critical humanitarian situation unfolding in Gaza.

Susan admitted that her remarks unintentionally overlooked the long-standing history of oppression and genocide in Europe, along with more recent tragedies like the Tree of Life synagogue shooting.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, I expressed my worry about the surge in hate crimes and specifically mentioned the Jewish American community, who have unfortunately become all too familiar with the fear and violence that comes from being targeted. I shared that their experiences bear an unsettling resemblance to what many Muslims have faced in this country for years.

As an obsessed fan, I cannot stress enough how regrettable it is when phrases like this are used. I feel compelled to set the record straight: The implication that Jews have only recently experienced persecution is a gross misrepresentation of history. In fact, the opposite is true. Jewish communities have faced unimaginable hardships and discrimination for centuries.

For many generations, Jews have experienced discrimination and religious violence, from historical persecution in Europe to more recent incidents like the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This unfortunate trend persists even today.

I’m truly sorry if my comment came across as minimizing the issue and causing pain instead of showing support. My intention was to stand in unity against all forms of discrimination, but it seems I fell short. I apologize sincerely for any confusion or distress caused.

I’ll keep dedicating myself to the causes of peace, honesty, fairness, and empathy for all human beings. Let’s strive for understanding and open communication, even towards those holding different perspectives.

Susan has unwaveringly supported Palestinian causes and made a statement by donning a pro-Palestinian badge at the New York film premipe of “The Fabulous Four” on Thursday.

In April, she took part in an auction along with numerous film stars and filmmakers. The event aimed to collect funds for humanitarian aid in Palestine. Notable figures such as Paul Mescal, Olivia Colman, Ayo Edebiri, Tessa Thompson, Louis Theroux, Jonathan Glazer, and Stellan Skarsgård also contributed by donating memorabilia and time.
