Diablo 4’s new Spiritborn class lets you be an animalistic martial artist

As a long-time fan of the Diablo series, I was absolutely thrilled to witness Blizzard’s reveal of the new class, the Spiritborn, during the livestream. This is the first wholly new class introduced to a numbered Diablo game in over a decade, and I can hardly contain my excitement for its arrival in Sanctuary on Oct. 8 as part of the Vessel of Hatred expansion.

During a live broadcast on Thursday, Blizzard revealed the newest Diablo 4 class called Spiritborn. This is the first completely new class introduced to a Diablo game in over a decade, and it’s set to join Sanctuary as part of the Vessel of Hatred expansion on October 8th.

As a longtime fan of action RPG games, I’ve spent countless hours honing my skills as a Monk in Diablo 3. The spiritual connection between the player and their character, the fluid martial arts combat, and the deep exploration of Eastern philosophies have always resonated with me.

As a Spiritborn character, you derive your abilities from four Spirit Guardians, serving as the foundation for your gameplay. These guardians materialize within your skill set, offering distinct playstyles. The Jaguar empowers you with fire damage and faster attacks, instilling a sense of frenzied chaos. In contrast, the Gorilla reinforces a defensive stance, enabling you to inflict physical harm and shield yourself from heavy blows. The Eagle focuses on swiftness and electrical damage, granting you extended reach for ranged techniques. Lastly, the Centipede specializes in poisoning and instilling fear among enemies, dominating crowd control with powerful abilities.

When creating your Spiritborn character, you have the flexibility to either focus on one Spirit Guardian or combine multiple ones. Your choices are expanded through the Spirit Hall, a distinctive feature specific to your class. In the Spirit Hall, you can pick a primary Spirit Guardian, which provides you with a corresponding main passive ability. Additionally, you may select a secondary Spirit Guardian that grants a distinct boon. If you strongly prefer the gameplay style of a single Spirit Guardian, you have the option to dedicate yourself fully to them, reaping the benefits of both their primary and secondary abilities.

In terms of weapons, as a Spiritborn, you’ll have the ability to use glaives, polearms, and quarterstaffs. At launch, you’ll find a complete collection of Ancient and Legendary items, along with Tempering recipes for enhancing them.

In the “Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred” expansion, you’ll find an unique character named Spiritborn, available only to those who purchase this add-on priced at $39.99 for the regular version.
