Production is underway in Hawaii for Netflix’s new action comedy, Protecting Jared, and the cast is growing. Joining stars Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg, two more actors have been added to the film, which is expected to be a fast-paced and funny adventure.
Jai Courtney and Aimee Carrero join the cast of Protecting Jared, director revealed
Jai Courtney, the Australian actor known for his roles in Netflix’s War Machine and American Primeval, has joined the cast. He’ll be working alongside Aimee Carrero, who recently appeared in the popular film The Menu and the Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors. Ruben Fleischer, the director of Venom, is also on board to direct. While details about their characters are being kept secret, both actors and the director are well-versed in the genre.
Actor Joel Courtney has been enjoying a lot of success lately. He recently starred in the popular Netflix thriller War Machine and also appeared in Dangerous Animals at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Many will recognize him for his role as Captain Boomerang in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
Currently, Carrero is filming the Netflix comedy One Attempt Remaining with Jennifer Garner and John Cena. She’s also known for her television work, including the Freeform series Young & Hungry. Voice acting fans will recognize her as the Latina princess Elena in Disney’s Elena of Avalor and as She-Ra in Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (according to Deadline).
The new film, Protecting Jared, features Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg. Momoa plays William Ikaika, a Hawaiian security guard tasked with protecting Jared, a tech billionaire played by Samberg, when they become the target of a kidnapping plot. The screenplay was written by Rob Klein and John Solomon.
Filming is currently happening in O’ahu and is expected to continue through next month. Because this is an action comedy that will need a lot of editing and special effects, it’s probably going to be released in 2027.
